Abstract

A panoramic camera has a housing 6 containing a changeable drum 9, a film cassette support means 4 and a transport spindle 8 and a closable slit aperture 7. The film cassette is placed in the support means 4, the film 3 passed behind the slit aperture 7, around the spindle 8 and one end is attached to the drum 9. While taking a photograph, the drum 9 remains stationary while the rest of the housing 6 and its contents is rotated by a motor an pinion drive 10 through 360 degrees while the slit aperture 7 is opened. The drum 9 may be cylindrical, D-shaped or have a plurality of flat sides.

Referring to drawing (sheet 1/1) relating to the 360 panoramic camera.

In normal operation the film 3 from the cassette 4 passes behind the vertical slit 2 and the lens system 1 then round the transport spindle 8 whence it is attached to the drum 9.

At the start of filming the drum 9 is clamped stationary and the body of the camera 6 including the film cassette 4 is rotated by means of the motor and pinion drive 10.

During this rotation the film 3 will wrap itself round the stationary drum 9 and in so doing will pull the film 3 past the lens/collimator 1&2 thus exposing it.

After the film 3 is finished the motor 10 is stopped, the drum 9 is unclamped so that it may now freely unwind and the film 3 is wound back into the cassette 4. l

1. Claims 1. A 360 panoramic camera, comprising a housing containing an

   interchangeable cylindrical drum, supporting means for a film cassette, a transport spindle, an interchangeable lens arrangement including an associated openable and closable slit aperture arrangement and a motor and pinion drive arrangement, in use a film cassette is placed in the supporting means and the film from the cassette is passed behind the slit aperture arrangement around the transport spindle and the end of the film is secured to the cylindrical drum, while taking a picture the cylindrical drum is held stationary by a clamping means, the slit aperture is opened and all components except the cylindrical drum are rotated 360 about the axial axis of the cylindrical drum by the motor and pinion drive thereby exposing the film and wrapping the film round the surface of the cylindrical drum.
2. 2. A 360 panoramic camera as claimed in claim 1, where a plurality of interchangeable cylindrical drums of differing diameters are provided to suit a plurality of interchangeable lens arrangements of differing focal length.
3. 3. A 360 panoramic camera as claimed in any previous claim, where further interchangeable cylindrical drums of differing shapes are provided to allow distortion free perspectives.
4. 4. A 360 panoramic camera as claimed in any previous claim, where further interchangeable cylindrical drums which are 'D' shaped are provided.
5. 5. A 360 panoramic camera as claimed in any previous claim, where further interchangeable cylindrical drums having a plurality of flat sides are provided.
