Abstract
A collapsible rotary airer comprises a canopy 11 which is mounted on main and secondary supports 1,4 which are separate to the main and secondary supports 5,12 that support the drying cords 6. The main supports 1 for the canopy and main supports 5 for the cord are mounted to a support post 9 by a first central bearing 2. The secondary supports 4,12 for the canopy and cord are mounted to the post 9 by a second central bearing 3. The two bearings 2,3 are able to rotate about the post 9 and the first bearing may be slid along the post 9 to raise or lower the airer and canopy. A peg 16 is used to hold the bearing 2 in place. The canopy 11 is held on to the supports by straps 10 and pockets 13. A vented curtain [18, Figure 5] can be attached to the canopy.
Description
Collapsible Rotatable Canopy and Air Dryer The invention relates to a
canopy, which is mounted on a support above the air dryer support where garments can be hung from the air dryer cord, the structure can be easily collapsible and stored away when not in use.
The air dryer is such a well known device for drying or airing of garments, however suffer from disadvantages that, in showery weather the garments on the air dryer get wet when it rains, air dryers with a canopy suffer from disadvantages that, they can be difficult to open and close, the air dryer cord can be tangled around the support frame, on some designs when the air dryer is in a closed state the air dryer cord dangles low down to the ground and is a safety problem, on some designs the canopy and air dryer cord are held together on one support frame giving no weight distribution of the canopy and the garments so placing all the stress on one single support frame.
The object of this invention is to provide a safe and easy way of airing or drying garments and have protection from the unpredictable weather conditions.
Accordingly, this invention provides an air dryer with a canopy which is rotatable and collapsible for storage, which can be used from any position around the post.
Preferably the air dryer supports, bearings, hooks, pivots and post can be made of metal or plastics materials, but it can be instead made of wood or a combination of these materials, preferably the canopy can be made of clear plastic material or a colored or with patterns or shapes, any water resistant material could be used.
Preferably the post is placed into soil or concrete at its base in a vertical position.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows a side view of the canopy 11, canopy supports 1 only two shown, secondary canopy supports 4 only two shown, air dryer supports 5 only two shown, secondary air dryer supports 12 only two shown, main central bearing 2, secondary central bearing 3, post 9, pivots 7, peg 16, air dryer cord 8, hooks 6 and canopy corner pockets 13, the view shows the canopy in a fully erected position, The canopy supports 1 and air dryer supports 5 are completely separate from each other, the secondary canopy supports 4 and the secondary air dryer supports 12 are completely separate from each other. When the collapsible rotary canopy and air dryer is fully erected the main central bearing 2 is at its smallest distance to the secondary central bearing 3, the canopy supports 1 and air dryer supports 5 are opened outwards. Using pivots 7 the secondary canopy support 4 which is shortest in length compared to the canopy support 1 are attached together, using pivots 7 the secondary air dryer support 12 which is shortest in length compared to the air dryer support 5 are attached together.
FIGURE 2 shows a top view looking down, canopy supports 1, secondary canopy support 4, air dryer support 5, secondary air dryer support 12, radiate from the secondary central bearing 3 and the central bearing 2 not shown, the post 9 is shown with the secondary central bearing 3 attached.
The canopy 11 with canopy corner pockets 13 to hold the canopy in position, the hooks 6 to hold the air dryer cord 8 in position, the view shows the canopy and air dryer in a fully erected position.
FIGURE 3 shows a top view and side view of the main central bearing 2, a low friction material is used, the main central bearing comprises of two parts, main central bearing 2 and the outer bearing ring 15 with pivots 7, the outer bearing ring 15 rotates the main central bearing 2, the main central bearing 2 slides along the post9 from a collapsible position to a fully opened position and held in place using a spring clip type of catch or peg 16.
FIGURE 4 shows a top view and side view of the secondary central bearing 3, a low friction material is used, the main central bearing comprises of two parts, secondary central bearing 3 and the outer bearing ring 15 with pivots 7, the outer bearing ring 15 rotates the secondary central bearing 3, the secondary central bearing 3 is held in position to the post 9 using a screw 14.
FIGURE 5 shows a side view of a collapsible rotary canopy and air dryer including post 9, canopy 11 and vented curtain 18, using fasteners 17 the vented curtain 18 is attached to canopy 11.
