Abstract

A dry ski slope constructed from an existing hill side covered in upturned toothbrush heads. The toothbrush heads are fitted closely together throughout the covered area, held in place by their handles which are pushed vertically into the soil. The angle between the back of the head and the handle is adjusted, through a process of heating bending and cooling, to an angle equal to the angle from the vertical of the area of ground where it is to be used.

Description

240535 1
TOOTHBRUSH DRY SKI SLOPE
This invention relates to skiing; an activity where the participant is propelled under the force of gravity down a slope previously treated, naturally or otherwise, with a friction reducing surface.
In many areas of the world the natural covering of snow is unavailable due to meterological or financial reasons.
There has long been dry ski slope technology where brushes manufactured for the purpose are applied to a snowless slope.
The object of this invention is make skiing available in parts where neither snow nor funding for a purpose built dry ski slope is available.
A hill side is selected, sloping at an appropriate rate and free of trees and other large immovable objects. It is then covered in toothbrush heads, new or used, bristles upwards.
The toothbrushes are heated, for example over a naked flame, until the plastic is sufficiently soft for the head to be bent backwards relative to the handle.
The angle between the back of the head and the handle of the brush must be approximately equal to the angle from the vertical of the area of ground where it is to be used. This angle may vary slightly from brush to brush on the same installation due to variations in the incline of the selected slope.
Once the bend is achieved the plastic is allowed to cool before the handle is hammered or otherwise pushed vertically into the ground, allowing the back of the head to rest on the surface of the soil, bristles uppermost.
A selected area of hill side will be covered in adjacent brush heads.
A gradient so covered will serve for many years as a weatherproof artificial ski slope at low cost and with little damage to the wider environment.
