Abstract

A foot rest arrangement or exercise device is provided which is suitable for use in front of a seated user. The foot rest arrangement includes at least one plate 8, so that a user is able to contact the or each plate with either or both of his feet. The plate, which may be spring biassed, is arranged so as to be operatively displaceable by movement of a foot resting thereupon, such as to enable a user to flex the ankle joint of the foot being used, to raise and lower the foot and thus enhance venous blood return flow of the associated leg. The device may be mounted to a foot rest 6 of an aircraft seat. Two further exercise devices are disclosed which are adapted to rest on the floor (Figures 4-9).

Claims (9)

1. A foot rest arrangement adapted for being so operationally positionable in front of the sitting passenger that whilst the passenger is seated the passenger is able to contact the foot rest arrangement with either or both of his feet, and wherein the foot rest arrangement is of such construction as to be operatively displaceable by movement of a foot resting thereupon, the arrangement being such as to enable the passenger to flex the ankle joint of a foot engaging with the foot rest arrangement in such manner as to raise and lower the foot and thus enhance venous blood return flow of the associated leg(s).
2. A foot rest arrangement as claimed in claim 1, in which the foot rest arrangement - includes at least one foot support unit pivotally mountable to the conventionally provided foot rest of an aircraft seat frame structure.
3. A foot rest arrangement as claimed in claim 2, in which the foot support unit is provided for each foot.
4. A foot rest arrangement as claimed in claim 2 or claim 3, in which the or each foot support unit includes an elongated platform of such length as to be able to accommodate a foot engaging therewith, which is so pivotal action about a transverse horizontal axis located, when a foot is placed upon a platform in the vicinity of the arch of the foot.
5. A foot rest arrangement as claimed in claim 4, in which the platform is so resiliently loaded as to tend to return the foot towards a raised position after such foot has been downwardly depressed on flexing the ankle and also to provide a resistance to the downward depressing of the foot.
6. A foot rest arrangement as claimed in claim 4 or claim 5, in which the platform includes a base plate and a resiliently loaded foot plate pivotally connected to the base plate, the resilient loading being such as to set the foot plate in an angularly raised setting relative to the base plate. lz-
7. A foot rest arrangement as claimed in claim 1, in which the foot rest arrangement includes a foot plate which is actable to an angular position relative to a support surface such as the floor of a room or other space, by the spring arrangement whose position is interchangeable between a position of use and a stowed or rest position.
8. A foot rest arrangement or exerciser unit substantially as herein described and as illustrated in Figures 1 to 3, Figures 4 to 6 and Figures 7 to
