Abstract
A pipe clip is formed from a steel wire elements (as shown) or a flat steel or plastics band provided with steel or plastics enlarged end lugs. A bridge piece extends between the lugs and is secured by a U-shaped pin.
Description
A CLIP FOR FLEXIBLE OR RIGID PIPES
be the invention relates to a clip which is pulled tight nDund a pipe by means other than a I nut and bog or a womm drive principle, the dip consists of two parts, one is an open * ended double strand encircling wire, the other part is a stepped bridge piece which is 3 j used to complete the circle.
Jew clips of the womm drive princple one well known, but they have severe limitations in use, I c other clips are well known which require a nut and bog to pull a band tight round a pipe, c but again they have severe limitations in use, both of these types of clips are very limited in the amount of torque that can be applied to them.
ba the object of the invention is to pnevide a clip which eliminates the womm drive clip,or the fin need for a nut and bog to tighten a band on a pipe. I t
t' accordingly, this invention provides a clip which is easily placed anDund a pipe, and is designed to give a quicker and easier means to pull an encircling band tight and to create Ill a better seal.
the clip can be made from nDund steel wire, or a flat steel trend can be used to encircle a pipe.
a preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
B.fig 4 is an exploded view of the clip as shown at fig 1 sheet 1,the difference being the bridge piece fig 5 sheet 2, is made of steel illustrating how the strip of steel is formed over and back on itself to form the stepped upper and lower limbs of the bridge piece, a locking mechanism is incorporated at the open ends of the bridge piece described at fig 5 steel fastener version, fig i sheet 1describes the bridge piece as a plastic fastener version.
7.fig illustrates how a flat steel or plastic band can be used, this is done by putting a slot in the back wall of the bridge piece as shown at fig 7 sheet 3, with the flat band formed to a circular configuration.
8.when using a flat band shown at fib sheet 3, the two lugs shown at fig 1 sheet 1 will have a slot for the flat band to go through, the two ends of the flat band are then distorted to prevent the lugs from pulilog off of the flat band when torque is applied to the lugs so as the flat band can be used with either a plastic bridge piece fig 1 sheet 1 or a steel bridge piece as illustrated at fig 5 sheet 2.
9.what i claim is a clip to be constructed as described. !
Claims (5)
- Circles 1.in one embodiment of the invention fig 1 a double strand ofsteel wire has been formed to an open ended circular configuration, with a free naming pia*ic or metal lug at each end which are captured bar deforrni the open ends of the wire dip by using a cold heading orocoss or some other means.
- 2. A hose cilp according to Maim t wherein the tightening means h to pull the two ends of the wire loops together using a toot which looks onto the ends of one lug, and dram the lug into a prepared point contanad within a brie piece where the dragged lug automatically drops off a step in the bode piece and.ops the cilp opening when the tool Is removed,
- 3. A have cilp according to claim 2 which has a brow with To extend" limbs with a stepped portion in each limb to allow the lug being drag"" into the Age to automatically drop off the stepped area and lock in Ian,
- 4.A hose clip according to claims 2- 3 which has a bridge piece tltat spans the gap Sheen the two ends of the S: shape conflagration and is desgr to complete the bras of the chip,
- 5. A hose clip as claimed in any one of claims 1 which is manufactured in metal or plastic and can be tightened without using a screw thread arrangement, a hose dip suibdantialb as herein before described and as shown in tho accompanrir drawings2. a bridge piece is illustrated at fig 1, this bridge piece has an upper and lower limb Which are thicker at the open sad of the limbs than is the Sickness of the limbs at the dosed sod of the bridge the reason for this being, a step is made as ilhdrated at fig 1.3.the two lugs illustrated at fig 1 have a relief chaorml in each of the top and bottom edges these relief channels are for the il,fid9B piece to engage as k illustrated at fig 2, where one lug is located at the back wall of the bridge piece and the other lug having been been pulled tight has dropped off the step of the the upper sad lower limbs as illustrated at figs 2 and 3 and lodes the clip tight on a pipe.4.fig1 illustrate and describes the cilp as usher steel wire to forth a dip with two lugs made of plastic or steel in its make up, but this arrangement, can be achieved by making a single plastic moulded unit. where the open ended Ire and the two metal or plastic lugs can be as a angle unit.S. the options illustrated are simply different ways of lodging the cilp to prevent accidental release of the cilp when in use.Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows: 1. A hose clip provided with a main loop fanned with a at larht of wire bent upon itself midway of Rs lenght, the two portions on each sWe of Me bend bang then formed into two substantially complete circus which are spaced apart at the bent portion and contend parallel to one another in spaced Platen, the two free ends befog held apart by a free Honing luff which captured on the loops by distorting the ends of the loops having tigldening cam mounted thereon.
