Abstract
240,248. Thomas, C. O. W. Feb. 12, 1925. Rail joints, welded, and with tread fish-plates. -The upper surfaces of the rail ends a are provided with additional metal e projecting a'bove the running level of the rails and either integral with the rails or independent of them but secured thereto. In the former case, Fig. 1, the additional metal is either formed on the rails when manufactured or is welded to them afterwards. In the latter case, Fig. 4, the metal forms a tread bridge with a flange h fitting the sides of the rail heads and secured bv screws i to one or both rails. In both cases the additional metal wears down or is hammered down by the traffic to the normal level of the rails, and will not sink further owing to the hardening of the metal by the traffic.
