Abstract
A Drill Holder that has an angled shaft 5 to which a handle support is attached 3 at the top end and a chuck support member 4 at the lower end. A bracket 6 linked to the top end of the handle support 3A is provided to connect the holder frame to the user.
Description
240205 1 Title: Drill Holder The present invention relates to a holder for
an electric drill.
Many people use electric drills, especially cordless electric drills. Some people wear a holster secured to their trouser belt in order to carry the drill so as to free up the hands when the drill is not being used. A difficulty with these holsters is that the drill often becomes wedged in the holsters making it difficult to withdraw the drill when it is needed. This can be a nuisance and even dangerous especially when working on ladders and scaffolding when only one hand is free.
Also such holsters often do not support the drill in a balanced position so that it imparts a twisting moment to the trouser belt.
The invention seeks to provide a solution to this problem.
According to the present invention there is provided a holder for an electric drill comprising: a) a holder frame having a substantially Ushaped drill handle support member and a drill chuck support member, said drill handle support member being connected to the drill chuck member by a link member, and b) a bracket connected to the holder frame to connect the holder frame to a user.
Preferably the bracket has a pair of slots through which can be threaded a trouser belt to connect the holder frame generally to the waist of a user.
Preterably the bracket is connected to the holder frame adjacent the end of one arm of the U-shaped drill handle support member. Preferably the bracket is connected to the holder frame at an angle such that the weight of the a drill when in the holder imparts a downward force on the user in a generally vertical direction.
Preferably a spacer member is provided to space the U-shaped drill support member from the user.
Preferably the link member connects the drill handle support member and the drill chuck member together substantially at right angles. The link member may be adjustable in length, e.g. telescopic.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure I shows a perspective view of the holder, and Figure 2 shows a side view of the holder with an electric drill therein.
Referring to the drawings there is shown a holder 1 for an electric drill 10 (see Figure 2).
Holder I has a holder frame 2 comprising a substantially U-shaped drill handle support member 3 and an annular drill chuck support member 4. Drill handle support member 3 is connected to the drill chuck member 4 by a link member in the form of a shaft 5. As shown, shaft 5 connects the drill handle support member 3 and the drill chuck member 4 together substantially at right angles. The link member may be adjustable in length, e.g. telescopic, to accommodate different sizes of drills.
A bracket 6 is connected to the holder frame 2, and connects the holder frame to a user. Bracket 6 has a pair of slots 7A,7B through which can be threaded a trouser belt 8 to connect the holder frame generally to the waist of a user.
Bracket 6 is connected to the holder frame adjacent the end 3A of one arm of the U-shaped drill handle support member 3. Bracket 6 is connected to the holder frame 2 at an angle such that the weight of drill 10 when in the holder imparts a downward force on the user in a generally vertical direction as shown by arrow X (see Figure 2).
A spacer member is provided in the form of a first arm 9A to space the Ushaped drill support member 3 from the bracket 6. The spacer member also includes a second arm 9B depending from one end of arm 9A. Arms 9A,9B space the drill away from the user, with arm 9B abutting against the body of the user thus preventing the drill chuck swinging in towards the body of the user.
The drill holder of the invention may be of a unitary construction as shown, e.g. moulded of plastics, or constructed of metal such as plasticcoated wire.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above. For example the drill chuck support member could be conical. The bracket could connect to a belt or waist by means other than slots, and the bracket could connect the holder 2 to parts of the body of a user other than the waist.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
Claims (3)
1. A Drill Holder comprising of a bracket at the top end linked to a handle support, which is connected to an angled shaft at the lower end of which a chuck support member is attached.
2. A Drill Holder as claimed in 1 where the top bracket connects the holder frame to the user.
3. A Drill Holder as claimed in 1 and 2 which is made from metal, plastics material, wood or leather or from a combination of these materials.
