Abstract
A building material mixer comprising a barrel 1 that can be rotated along the ground by means of a detachable handle 2. The handle 2 facilitates manual rolling of the barrel. One end of the container may be secured to the main body by a system of fasteners 4. With the handle removed the secured end can be released from the cylinder to facilitate the loading of building materials to produce a desired mix. With the end secured, the cylinder laid horizontal, and the handle reattached, the action of propelling the container along the ground causes the contents to be thoroughly mixed and transported. The barrel 1 may comprise internal protrusions in order to aid the mixing process.
Description
MANUAL BUILDING MATERIAL MIXER
This invention relates to a manually propelled building material mixer.
Building material mixers used within the building trade comprise of a hopper set upon a motor to rotate it. The motor is either an internal combustion engine or electrically powered. The necessary ingredients are loaded into the hopper and are rotated until the materials are thoroughly mixed.
Powered mixers are an expensive item of equipment to purchase or hire for the small jobbing builder or DIY enthusiast. As a consequence small quantities of mixing are generally carried out with the necessary ingredients being tipped onto an impermeable flat surface and mixed with a shovel, by hand. This is a laborious process which often requires the final mixed material to be transported to its place of use.
According to the present invention there is provided a cylindrical barrel that opens at one end for the addition of the necessary mix ingredients. The open end is secured in place with robust fastenings and the whole barrel propelled across the ground by the use of a detachable handle, the action of which mixes the contents. The internal surface of the cylinder has a series of protrusions in order to aid the mixing process.
The mixing process can often take place between constitute material store and place of use.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 Shows in perspective, the mixing barrel with the handle attached: Figure 2 illustrates the barrel in a vertical position with the handle removed, and Figure 3 shows the barrel with the lid removed for the addition of the building materials.
Referring to the drawing the barrel 1 is rotated along the ground when pushed by the removable handle 2. The handle is attached to the barrel by the means of a release mechanism 3.
With the handle and lid removed the barrel is loaded with the constitute ingredients to produce the necessary building mix whilst the barrel is in the vertical position. Fig 3.
The lid is placed onto the barrel and held in place with secure fasteners 4 before being lowered into the horizontal position. The handle is replaced and the barrel pushed along the ground to produce the necessary rotation for mixing the contents.
Claims (3)
1. A barrel that can be rotated along the ground by means of a detachable handle.
2. A barrel as claimed in claim 1 wherin one end can be removed to facilitate the addition of the necessary constitute building materials for the purpose of mixing.
3. A barrel as claimed in claims 1 and 2 wherin the removable end can be securely fixed in order to retain its contents whilst being mixed through the process of rotation.
