Abstract

A funnel comprises removable mouth and neck caps such that the funnel might be stored without cleaning, such that remains do not leak from the funnel. Engagement may be via screw threads 1,2. The funnel may be made from plastic, nylon, metal or a combination of these materials.

Description

Closable Funnel The invention relates to a funnel, of the type commonly
used to deliver engine oil into vehicle engines such as those for motor vehicles, boats or light aircraft.
Such funnels are well known but suffer from the disadvantage that, once used, they must be wiped clean of oil before they can be put away. This is a messy, slightly awkward procedure necessitating the use of rags or paper towels. It is one which generally runs the risk of oil getting onto clothing and, almost inevitably, leaves the hands in need of washing. Wiping out a funnel is therefore inconvenient at best, but cannot be avoided if the funnel is to be stored properly and cleanly. It would be a desirable situation if cleaning could be avoided altogether.
The object of the invention is to provide a funnel which, once used, can be stored without being cleaned Accordingly, the invention provides a funnel which can be closed at both ends after use, by means of removable screw caps. With the caps in place, any residue of oil remaining is held inside the funnel. The funnel can then be stored, typically in a locker, on a shelf or inside the boot of a car without any Further oil leaking out.
Preferably, the funnel is made of plastic, nylon, metal or similar material; or any combination of these materials.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIGURE 1 shows a section through the whole funnel, showing both the screw the caps in place.
FIGURE 2 shows a section through the funnel without either of the screw caps in place.
FIGURE 3 shows a section through the screw cap used for the mouth of the funnel.
FIGURE 4 shows a section through the screw cap used for the neck of the funnel. 2.
As shown in Figure 1, the funnel comprises a mouth which has an external screw thread 3.
This matches an internal screw thread 1, inside the cap 5. This allows the cap to be screwed into place or removed to close off or open up the mouth of the funnel.
Also in Figure 1, the funnel is shown to comprise an external thread 4, on the end of the neck.
This matches an internal thread 2 inside of the cap 6. This allows the cap to be screwed into place or removed to close off or open up the neck of the funnel.
With the caps 5 and 6 removed, the funnel can be used for pouring. When caps 5 and 6 are screwed back into place, the funnel is immediately ready for storing with any residue of oil remaining Inside. 3.

Claims (7)
