Abstract

A delivery capsule comprises an enclosing wall (10), the enclosing wall comprising an inner layer (30) of a first material and an outer layer (40) of a second material, the first and second materials having different solubility properties, with one or more portions of the inner layer constituting part of the outer surface of the capsule by the creation of a flange (18). When capsules in accordance with the present invention are added to an appropriate solvent, the solvent contacts both the inner layer and the outer layer of the enclosing wall of the capsule which may behave differently under the same conditions. It is thus possible to exploit the differential solubility effect which exists between the inner layer and the outer layer to control e.g. the rate of release of the contents of the capsule and/or the temperature at which said contents are released. The inner and outer layers are preferably polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) of varying solubility. The capsules may contain bath oil.
