Abstract
A floor ledger N is attached to an insulated concrete form wall K, L, K by a two-part connector system; the first part A has recesses C to receive reinforcement rods J and is embedded in the concrete L as well as passing though insulation K as shown, and the second part I receives ledger N as shown and is pre-drilled to receive self-tapping screws M which pass though the ledger and are adjustably fixable to plate E of part A.

FLOOR LEDGER
The invention relates to a floor ledger system that provides a permanent structural fixing for timber floors when using Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) wall construction.
Floors are normally either inserted into cut-out pockets in the ICF wall, or fixed to threaded bolts which have previously been cast into the 1CF concrete core. The first method requires temporary propping to take the weight of the floor until the concrete core within the ICF has hardened and the second method requires accurate placing of the bolts and drilling of locating holes in the timber ledger that becomes fixed to these bolts; both methods being time consuming.
The object of this invention is to produce a floor ledger connection system that is quick to erect and can offer the ability to adjust for correct levels, before the final floor is fixed.
Accordingly, this invention provides a ledger connector that is inserted into the ICF wall and a ledger support piece that carries the timber ledger which is then fixed through the timber ledger to the ledger connector, with self-tapping screws, affording vertical adjustment to provide accurate floor levelling, in one operation.
Preferably, the base material will be made of metal, being galvanised to offer protection from the elements during construction.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings which: FIGURE 1 shows the side view of the ledger connector; FIGURE 2 is a front view of the ledger connector; FIGURE 3 shows the front view of the ledger support piece; FIGURE 4 is a typical section of the ledger connector system inserted into an ICF wall, with a section of timber (ledger) connected to the ledger connector via the ledger support piece; FIGURE 5 shows a typical view of a timber ledger fixed to the ICF wall via the floor ledger system: As shown in Figure 1, the projections (A) from the main body have holes (B) cut into the body as this section of the ledger connector is embedded in the core of the ICF wall (K) and the holes allow wet concrete to interlock with the ledger connector which will hold the ledger connector in place once the concrete has hardened. The cup -shaped cut outs (C) are provided to place reinforcement bar into prior to concreting (See Figure 6 [I]). The face of the ledger connector (E) is left exposed on the surface of the 1CF wall and has a tang (D) which ensures that it fits flush to the 1CF wall surface. (E) becomes the fixing surface for the ledger support piece (see Figures 3,4 &5) Figure 3 shows the front face of the ledger support piece (F), with pre-drilled holes (H) which allow initial fixing of the ledger support piece to the timber ledger (A), which is placed into the "U"-shaped part (I). The ledger support piece (F), is then offered into position with surface (G) facing outwards so that the self-tapping screws (see Figure 6 [M]) can be screwed into the face of the ledger connector (E) Figure 6 illustrates how the ledger connector is positioned into the ICF wall once a slit (kerf) is cut into the face of the TCF wall (K) to accept the main body of the ledger connector(A), and how the ledger is fitted into the "U" shape (I) off the ledger support piece (F), and fixed to the ledger support piece (F) and the face of the ledger connector (E) by the self- tapping screws (M) Figure 7 shows the completed ledger system fixed to the ICF wall (K) with the ledger support piece (G) being spaced according to loading requirements.
Claims (5)
1. A floor ledger system that provides a permanent fixing in 1CF walls for timber floors whilst providing the ability to adjust levels in a single operation.
2. A floor ledger system as claimed in Claim I which includes pre-drilled holes to facilitate fixing of the ledger support piece prior to fixing to the ledger connector.
3. A floor ledger system as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 which incorporates cup-shaped cut-outs to place reinforcement bar in, prior to concreting.
4. A floor ledger system as claimed in Claim 3 which includes holes in the main body of the ledger connector to allow concrete to flow through and form a strong bond once hardened.
5. A floor ledger system substantially as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
5. A floor ledger system substantially as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings. i
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. A floor ledger system that provides a permanent fixing in ICI; walls for timber ledgers, comprising a ledger connector adapted to reach through the ICE foam layer, to be cast into the concrete and to leave an exposed face, and a ledger support piece, the arrangement being such that the ledger support piece may be adj ustably connected in a single operation to the exposed face of the ledger connector.
2. A floor ledger system as claimed in Claim I which includes pre-drilled holes to facilitate fixing of the ledger support piece to the ledger prior to fixing to the ledger connector.
3. A floor ledger system as claimed in Claim I or Claim 2 in which the ledger connector incorporates cup-shaped cut-outs to place reinforcement bar in, prior to concreting.
4. A floor ledger system as claimed in Claim 3 which includes holes in the main body of the ledger connector to allow concrete to flow through and form a strong bond once hardened.
