Abstract

A paving slab grouting tool includes two trays connected on one side by a lockable sliding hinge 2, an adjustable gap through which filling material may be applied and a wedge 3 to locate the device over the open joint.

Description
The invention relates to a portable device to be used for the filling of gaps between paving slabs, paviors, tiles or similar materials.
The system is designed for filling the gaps between paving slabs, tiles or similar square flat laid materials while protecting the surface of the laid material from soiling by the filling media and thereby reducing the amount of filling material wasted and eliminating the need to clean off the surfaces surrounding the laid materials.
The system consists of two flat surfaces with raised edges on three sides that are joined together by an adjustable sliding hinge mechanism. When the two surfaces of this device are laid out flat on top of the paving there is a gap between the two surfaces that is adjustable. The gap is placed over the open unfilled join between the paving and adjusted to fit so that any fill material applied through the gap only enters the join and does not contaminate the surfaces of the paving material. The device is located in position by pegs or wedges to prevent sideways movement during working. Once the device is set up over the join the hinge can be locked into position by means of a wing nut or lever nut on the hinge mechanism. The fill material is placed onto the device and applied to the join, through the gap, up to the level of the device upper surface. Tools are used to compact and finish the fill material down to the level of the underlying slabs. When not in use the device can fold up to take up less storage space and has a handle for carrying it.

Claims (5)

-3 CLAIMS
1. A device including two flat surfaces with raised edges on three sides to contain fill material connected by a lockable sliding hinge mechanism which allows the device to be closed for storage or opened out with an adjustable gap between each surface through which tilling material can be applied into underlying flooring or paving.
2. A device as claimed in Claim l that includes a system of pegs or
wedges to locate the device through the adjustable gap in the device and into the open joins between underlying flooring or paving.
3. A device as claimed Claim I that includes a too! for compacting and leveling the fill material by pulling along the length ofthe gap in the device in Claim 1.
4. A device as claimed in any proceeding claim which is made from metal, plastics material or wood or from a combination of these materials.
