Abstract

A modular work board 1 for placement on top of a work bench to aid the positioning of tools during DIY operations. The board comprises a plurality of holes 2 which can accommodate plug in clamps, guides and other accessories 13,14, 16-18. The board maybe constructed as a grid of interlocking cells to allow its shape and size to be altered depending on its intended use (See fig 9). The use of guide rollers to control the position of a saw blade is also covered. (See figs 5 and 6).

Description

Page I Description
Work-board This device is a bench-top tool intended for use by d.i y. workers, related trades and crafts persons.
Domestic appliances presently available lack capacity, rigidity and flexibility for many applications causing difficulty in producing satisfactory results.
This device is intended to widen the scope of tasks and improve the capabilities of any enthusiast having limited workshop facilities The drawings attached give an indication of what the components could look like, some are made in various sizes to ensure continuous coverage of work-piece dimensions.
The selection and arrangement of plug-in accessories determine the functions of this board.
(Drawings 1, 8 and 9) Horizontal clamps are used in pairs on either side of the work-piece, the clamp posts can be withdrawn up to a suitable and acceptable height limit or replaced with longer options.
The clamp jaws are in various shapes and sizes to suit the subject material (metal, wood, ceramic, glass, plastic or other) These clamps can be positioned to secure irregular objects for drilling, filing, chiselling, engraving or sawing as necessary. (Drawings 2 and 3) Vertical clamps use parallel bars enabling them to be placed in the direction between any two sockets and not limited by the fixed distance between them Smaller edge clamps can be used where great pressure is not needed. (Drawings 4 and 7) The saw blade guides are mounted on a cradle, which slides vertically between two extension posts.
Gravity should allow the guides to follow the blade otherwise gravity can be assisted or a potential force added. (Drawings 5 and 6) Wheels have been used as blade guides to improve accuracy and reduce friction, noise and wear The gap between the side wheels is adjustable to suit blade thickness, (or the wheels may be sprung.) Saw cuts, at an angle in the horizontal plane, are made by rotating the work-piece to the desired angle.
Protractors and wedges are used to set these angles The protractors are 90-degree sectors with graduations numbered clockwise on one side and anti-clockwise on the other. The 1 5-degree wedges allow 30-degree or 60degree settings from the 45-degree grid diagonal or 30 degree wedges can be used against the grid rows. (Drawing 7) Modular construction of the baseboard allows it to be formed into the size and shape required.
The cell faces are aligned with mating features, C and D then locked with a retaining device B. (Drawing 9) Additional accessories include components to assemble a bench drill and a lathe using a dedicated motor or a suitable powered hand drill. Compatible accessories introduced later may not need to be covered by a patent

Work-board 1 The cellular/modular construction of the baseboard allows flexibility of assembly to the required dimensions. ( dry. 9 / 9) 2 The selection of plugin clamps and guides allows captivation of the work piece in the desired position for the intended operation. (dry. 8 / 9) 3 Interchangeable jaws on the clamps allow a range of subject materials to be accommodated. ( dry. 3 / 9) 4 The guide-wheels, in contact with the saw blade, enable cuts to be made with greater accuracy. (dry. 6 / 9)
