Abstract

Advertising means adapted to be clamped to a bar top 56 are provided with a cylindrical display member 32 which is belt-driven by an electric motor 20 via toothed gearing for rotation about a vertical axis 33. The display member is disposed within a fixed transparent cover 14 and is illuminated by an array of miniature light sources 36. The display member is operatively associated with an electrically operated beverage pump system 50 having a single outlet 52, and movement of the display member is arranged to be initiated by activation of the pump outlet. In another arrangement, the pump system comprises an integrated series of pump outlets disposed on a so-called T-bar and provided with respective advertising display members, movement of each display member being initiated by activation of its associated outlet. In a further arrangement, the advertising means stand alone.

'Advertising Means'' This invention relates to advertising means adapted to be mounted on a counter and particularly but not exclusively on a bar top.
5 The object of the invention is to provide more eye catching and thus more effective advertising means for use in such a location.
The invention comprises advertising means adapted to be mounted on a counter and provided with a moving display 10 member for the purpose of advertising a product.
The display member is preferably rotateable about an axis. Preferably, the axis is vertical.
Preferably, also, the display member is belt-driven by 15 an electric motor via toothed gearing The display member is preferably disposed within a fixed transparent cover.
Preferably, the display member is illuminated.
Preferably, also, the display member is illuminated by 20 an array of miniature light sources.
Preferably, the counter is a bar top and the product is a beverage.
Preferably, also, the display member is operatively associated with an electrically operated beverage pump 25 system.
The system may comprises a single pump outlet.
l .: .:^.. I:
Alternatively, the system comprises an integrated series of pump outlets provided with respective display members. Preferably, the series is disposed on a so-called T-
5 bar.
Movement of the or each display member is preferably initiated by activation of its associated pump outlet.
The invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, of 10 which: Figure 1 is a sectional rear elevation of one embodiment; Figure 2 is a sectional plan view of said one embodiment; 15 Figure 3 is a sectional side elevation of said one embodiment operatively associated with an electrically operated beverage pump; Figure 4 is a sectional rear elevation of another embodiment comprising an integrated series of electrically 20 operated beverage pumps disposed on a so-called T-bar; and Figure 5 is a sectional side elevation on the line 5-5 in Figure 4.
Referring now to Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, one embodiment of the invention comprises advertising means 25 adapted to be mounted standing alone on a bar top of a public house, hotel or restaurant. Said means comprise a lower base ring 10, an upper base ring 12, a transparent
At: I: :: I4' l, l cylindrical cover 14 and a lid 16 all of which are fixed together. The ring 10 has a broad radial slot 18 adapted to receive one arm of a C-clamp (see Figure 3) for securing the advertising means to the bar top. Housed within the 5 rings 10 and 12 is an electric motor 20 which drives toothed gearing comprising an internal gear (not shown) meshing with a pinion 24. A pulley 26 co-axially fixed to the pinion 24 drives a larger pulley 28 by means of a belt 30. The pulley 28 is concentric with the cover 14 and is 10 co-axially fixed to a cylindrical advertising display member 32 whereby said member is rotateable within said cover about a vertical axis 33. An electronic circuit board 34 distributes electrical power to the motor 20 and to an array of miniature light sources in the form of light 15 emitting diodes 36 which operate at low temperature within a diffuser ring 38. A space 40 is provided for additional lighting if so desired. The electrical power can be supplied at 12 volts or 24 volts for compatibility with conventional electrically operated beverage pumps. The 20 display member 32 can be arranged to rotate continuously or periodically, and clockwise or anticlockwise, as desired.
Referring now to Figure 3, the same embodiment of the invention is operatively associated with an electrically operated beverage pump 50 provided in known manner with an 25 outlet 52 for a metered amount of beverage and a drip tray 54. The advertising means is mounted on a bar top 56 by means of a C-clamp, and the pump 50 is carried by said
clamp. A solenoid 60 in the pump 50 connected by wiring 62 to the circuit board 34 initiates rotation of the display member 32 for a predetermined time whenever the pump is operated. The display member 32 can be arranged to rotate 5 clockwise or anticlockwise as desired.
Referring now to Figures 4 and 5, in another embodiment of the invention an integrated series of four electrically operated beverage pumps having respective outlets 70 for different beverages are disposed on a so 10 called T-bar 72 adapted to be mounted on a bar top. The pump outlets 70 have respective advertising means each of which is broadly similar to the embodiment of Figures 1 and 2 but is built integrally into the crossmember 74 of the T-bar 72 which member has upper and lower parts 76 and 78 15 carrying transparent plane windows 80. Each advertising means includes an electric motor 82 which drives an internally toothed gear meshing with a toothed pinion, and a belt 84 driveably connecting a pulley 86 co-axially fixed to said pinion to the larger periphery of a cylindrical 20 advertising member 88 carried between centres 90 for rotation about a vertical axis. Each advertising means -
also includes an electronic circuit board 92 which distributes electrical power at 12 volts or 24 volts to the motor 82 and to an array of light emitting diodes 94. A -
25 solenoid 96 in the base of the T-bar 72 which is connected by a wiring loom to each of the circuit boards 92 initiates rotation for a predetermined time of one of the display
:.: l members 88 when the associated pump outlet 70 is activated.
Each display member 88 can be arranged to rotate clockwise or anticlockwise as desired. A space 98 is provided for additional lighting if so desired.
5 In one modification applicable to both embodiments hereinbefore described, the display member can be moveable in a different manner, for example about a horizontal axis or with a non-rotational such as an oscillating motion. In another such modification, the display member is not 10 cylindrical but can for example be of triangular or square crosssection perpendicular to its axis.
The advertising means can be mounted on a shop counter or the like instead of a bar top, to promote products other than beverages. In this case, the electrical power can be 15 at any suitable voltage such as the normal mains supply of 240 volts.
