Abstract

A butt-end rod rest comprises a head section and a shank section. The head section supports the rod, while the shank section is fitted with a double spike which engages the ground. Both sections are detachable about a square shank and square socket arrangement which is held together with a knurled screw. This detachable feature allows for the fitting of the rod rest support to an alternate attachment such as a clamp for fixing to a boat. It also minimises storage and carrying space.

Description

The Uni-rod Rest. 2389295 Fishing rod rests are well known pieces of
equipment used by anglers to support their fishing rods. These rod rests are constructed for use into ground or soil, or clamped to a boat and provide enough support to cradle the angler's fishing rod without the use of hands.
Conventional rod rests are relatively expensive and are required to be adaptable enough to provide support for many different sizes and shapes of rods or fishing poles that may be used by the fisherman. This last point requires that the individual rod rests be threaded to allow the attachment of various shapes and sizes of rod rest heads. This requirement adds to the cost and each variety of head needed adds to the amount of equipment required by the fisherman; thus taking up storage space which may be at a premium.
The present invention overcomes these traditional disadvantages in the following ways.
The present invention can support any size or shape of rod or pole because it supports the rod or pole at the butt end of the rod or pole only. Fig 1/ A. Therefore only one Uni-rod rest is needed for any selection of desired fishing rod or pole design.
The present invention can be dismantled for storage and carrying in this way it minimises storage and carrying space. The present invention can be dismantled to accommodate different bases for different types of fishing and different location requirements for example standing in deep water
where a longer shaft is required or fishing on a boat where a clamp would be required.
The present invention has a combination of twin spike and chevron construction for entry into hard or soft ground. Fig 1/B The present invention is constructed with square section head and square section shaft to prevent turning around the central shaft. Fig 2/A and B. The above square plug and socket arrangement is held in place by a knurled screw. Fig 2/C The shaft of the rod rest Fig 2/D can be either a spike for use in ground or soil or the said shaft can be a base or clamp or any fixing alternatives because they all will fit into the universal head.
