Abstract

A container, such as a pizza box (2), for food comprises at least one wall, such as the lid (6), having an associated area (10) removable therefrom, wherein the removable area (10) has an indicia display area which is preferably an integral portion of the at least one wall (6). That integral portion (10) is preferably defined by a weakened line (8), with a tab (12) for ease of removal.

DESCRIPTION

This invention relates to containers for food and especially, but not exclusively, to such containers for use as take-away packaging, for 10 example, pizza boxes.

Fast food restaurants and take away restaurants use disposable containers for food such as cartons, boxes and bags.

Such businesses often rely heavily on advertising to attract customers, for example, by delivering leaflets or flyers to people's homes. It is also desirable for such businesses to encourage 20 repeat custom.

Any way of increasing advertising or encouraging repeat custom is therefore desirable to such htsinessec.

2s The object of the present invention is to increase advertising and encourage repeat custom for fast food and take away restaurants.

Accordingly, the present invention provides a container for food comprising, at least one wall having an associated area removable therefrom,

- -2 wherein the removable area is an indicia display area. Fast food and take away restaurants can place 5 their details including, for example, their address and telephone number, on the indicia display area.

Customers can then remove this indicia display area from the wall of the container.

This enables customers to keep the details of the fast food or take away restaurants from which they have purchased food, thereby increasing advertising for the fast food or take away 15 restaurants and encouraging repeat purchases by the customers. The removable area is preferably an integral portion of the at least one wall of the container 20 defined, for example, by perforations therein or other weakened line(s). This is preferred over a separate associated area as manufacturing costs are kept to a minimum.

25 The associated area of the container may further comprise a tab for ease of removal of the associated area from the wall of the container.

In order that the various aspects of the 30 invention can be more fully understood, a preferred embodiment thereof will now be described by way of example only and with reference to Figure l which

-3 shows a plan view of a blank of a pizza box having a removable wall portion.

5 Referring firstly to Figure 1, there is shown a blank for a pizza box 2 having a base 4 and a lid 6.

The blank may be made of any suitable material such as cardboard or other suitable sheet material, for example, plastics sheet material, erectable into a lo pizza box in a manner well known to those skilled in the art.

A removable wall portion 10 of the did 6 is defined by a weakened line in the form of 15 perforations 8 and has an exposed indicia display area. This 1ndicia display area can be utilized by fast food or take-away businesses to display address 20 and telephone indicia, for example, by writing, stamping or sticking the indicia thereon. This will indicate to a customer details of the fast food or take-away source from which the cvlltai-er and contents thereof came.

The removable wall portion 10 containing the indicia display area, can be removed from the lid 6 of the erected pizza box by applying pressure to the removable wall portion 10 causing the perforations 8 30 to break.

A customer can then retain the so-removed wall portion 10 and its indicia display area, enabling future contact with the same fast food or takeaway food source.

s Alternatively or additionally, removal of the removable wall portion 10 can be aided by the presence of a tab 12 which is part of the removable wall portion lO of the lid 6 and is also defined by lo the perforations 8. To remove the removable wall portion 10, the tab 12 can be grasped by a customer and used to pull the removable wall portion 10 away from the lid 6, thereby breaking the perforations 8.

Although the above features are preferred it can be envisaged that the invention would function effectively if the indicia display area was on an associated area removable from a wall of a container 20 and not on a portion of the lid or other wall itself. For example, an associated area could provide means for securing a leaflet or card to the 25 container or hold a removable sticker or magnet capable of displaying indicia.

Also, the removable wall portion or associated area could be positioned on any wall of a container 30 such as a top wall, bottom wall or sidewall.

1. A container for food comprising at least one wall having an associated area removable therefrom, 5 wherein the removable area has an indicia display area.

2. A container according to claim 1, wherein the associated area is an integral portion of the at 10 least one wall.

3. A container according to claim 2, wherein the portion of the at least one wall is defined by a weakened line, such as perforations, in the at least 15 one wall.

4. A container according to any preceding claim, wherein the associated area further comprises a tab for ease of removal.
