Abstract

A cable clip tool comprises a handle 1, an applicator 2,a prong 3, a spring 4, and a fixer 5. This tool can be used to apply a cable clip over a cable in a safe and easy manner, especially in confined areas. The applicator part can be interchangeable so as to allow for the many differing sizes of cable clips and these extra applicators could be stored within the tool handle 1.

Description

CABLE CLIP TOOL
This invention relates to a fixing method for cable clips.
Cable Clips are used frequently by electricians and D1Y enthusiasts to fix in place small cables. A cable clip generally has a "U" shaped piece of material, which is placed over a cable, and a small nail through, at the side, which is hammered into place, thus fixing the cable into place.
The current method of hammering into place has its problems though. One hand is required to hold the cable clip, and cable, in place and one hand to apply the hammer. This task can cause small accidents as cable clips are usually quite small and there can be a possibility of hitting the hand holding the cable clip in place with the hammer. Using the hammer to apply the cable clip can also be difficult in confined areas with not much spacing.
According to the present invention there is provided an applicator, which a cable clip would be placed into, a prong, which would essentially take the place of the hammer, a spring, which would take the tool back to the "start" position after each use and a handle which will house these parts. The handle may be split, but easily fixed together, so as the applicator part would be interchangeable. As there are differing sizes of cable clips, there may be different sizes of Applicator heads. These interchangeable Applicator Heads could be stored within the Handle itself.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1, Sheet 1/2 shows in perspective, with a cutaway and in exploded form, each part, prior to cable clip fixing.
Referring to the drawing the Cable Clip Tool comprises a Handle 1 an Applicator 2 a Prong 3 a Spring 4 and a Fixer 5, in this instance a screw, but similar means could be used.
A cable clip 6 (shown for reference only) would be placed into the Applicator 2. The Tool would then be offered up, by the user holding the Handle 1, over a cable, to a surface that the cable is to be fixed to. By pushing the Handle 1 the Applicator 2 retracts into the Handle 1 and slides over the stationary Prong 3, shown in the cutaway, which would then contact the nail part of the Cable Clip. By exerting continued force the Prong 3 would thus force the nail into the surface. Once the nail is completely in place, the Tool can then be withdrawn away and the Spring 4 would allow the Tool to revert back to the start position.
Figure 2, Sheet 2/2 shows in perspective, with a cutaway and in exploded form, each part, after cable clip fixing.
The nail part of the cable clip has been forced through the "U" part and this would be embedded in a surface.

Claims (5)

- 2 CLAIMS
1 The Cable Clip Tool comprising of a Handle an Applicator a Prong a Spring and a Fixer will allow an improved method of taxing a Cable Clip in place.
2 The Cable Clip Tool as claimed in Claim 1 can have interchangeable Applicator parts
to suit differing sizes of Cable Clips.
3 The Cable Clip Tool as claimed in Claim 2 could have storage within the Handle part to keep the various sizes of Applicator parts.
4 The Cable Clip Tool as claimed in any preceding claim can allow for fixing in reduced and awkward spaces.
5 A Cable Clip Tool substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
