Drilling.-In drilling-machines having a sensitive feed, the hand feed may be changed to a power feed or viceversa through rotation of the operating lever about its own axis. The spindlesleeve a has a rack engaged by a pinion b secured to a shaft through which passes the lever c for hand feed. A power feed may be derived from the shaft p, rotated directlv or indirectly from the machine pulleyspindle, and a worm drive o, h, the wheel h being attached to a sleeve g loose on the shaft and having clutch teeth adapted to engage teeth on a sleeve f splined to the shaft and moved into and out of engagement bv rotation of a cam e on the lever c. The clutch teeth have an inclined angle of 90‹ to permit easy disengagement which is effected by a spring i. The lever c is rotatably supported by ball-bearings j in a casing k attached to the shaft d, and the cam e engages' the sleeve f through an anti-friction bearing comprising a set of balls n or a single ball or roller. The spindle is returned by a spring q of known form, and the spindle-head is balanced bv a weight concealed within a column. An automatic stop for the power feed is provided by a projection on a disc s, angularly adjustable, in the fixed casing t and locked by a set-screw x, which engages a cam v on the lever o to rotate it on its axis.
