Abstract
A collapsable catamaran dinghy where each hull is formed from two individually sealed buoyant sections a, b, c, d, the hull sections being fixable to a central metal chassis frame e. The four buoyant sections may be formed as marine plywood boxes filled with high density foam board such that they are unsinkable even if holed. The buoyant sections may be fixed to the chassis frame with bolts, the chassis frame being formed from fully galvanised box section steel. The catamaran dinghy may have wheels (b and c, Fig 3) incorporated into the chassis frame to assist in launching and landing of the craft.
Description
CATAMARAN STYLE DINGHY 23871 45 Page 1 The invention relates to a
catamaran style dinghy, which can be transported inside a hatchback or estate car. Can be assembled and launched by one per-
son only, unlike inflatables may also be efficiently powered by electric motor (without loss of energy or direction through hulls) (1) The current standard products on the market to meet this requirement is the inflatable boat or (Tinker Inflatable with semi-rigid, integrated hull).
Both these types are time consuming to assemble, are prone to punctures, are at best semi-rigid which can compromises handling especially when sailing or rowing (not suit-
able for electric motor). Needs two persons to launch and bring ashore with separate launching device/trolley. Could sink or capsize if badly punctured either when assembling or when in use. Not much passenger room. BUOYANCY IS DEPENDENT UPON INFLAT-
ABLE TUBES WHICH CAN PUNCTURE.
(2) This prototype Catamaran style dingy is: (a) THE FOUR SECTIONS OF SEALED HULLS ARE UNSINKABLE EVEN IF HOLED, HAVE A VERY SAFE COMBINED 390 KILOS OF BUILT IN BUOYANCY, ARE SECURELY
FITTED TO A RIGID STEEL CHASSIS, BY EIGHT 20MM DIA X 80MM LONG BOLTS,
(are constructed in marine ply, both the left and the right hand side hulls which are pro-
duced in two sections are sealed but have an inspection hatch and are completely filled with high density foam board (which does not absorb moisture/water). Each hull section (four in total) are quickly attached to a rigid steel 40mmx60mm box section chassis by two 20mm die x 80mm bolts per hull section. Each 20mm die bolt is centrally fitted through a 150mm die x 8mm thickness steel disk with a centrally raised boss of 60mm die xl2mm thickness through which the 20mm bolt passes through and into the steel chassis. Four 8mm die fixing bolts secure each steel disk to a 12mm thick marine ply wall position located by centrally raised boss. There are two 150mm die disks attached securely to each hull section, the wall thickness is 12mm.
(b) THE RIGID STEEL CHASSIS, fully galvanised rigid steel box section 40mmx60mmx3mm, dimensions:1200mmx890mm chassis, with eight 20mm holes for the eight hull mounting bolts. FOR SINGLE HANDED LAUNCHING AND COMING ASHORE integral are two rear swinging arms (box section) with pneumatic tyred wheels, com-
bined with a fully retractable steering arm situated in the centre at the front of the chas-
sis also with a pneumatic tyred wheel.
(c) PASSENGER PLATFORM, constructed in marine ply with 12rarn flat floor, and eight securing points, capacity for 2/3 adults LIST OF FIGURES (4)
4/1 The Boat, a,b,c,d= hull sections, e= passenger platform.
4/2 a,b,c,d,e,f=8 hull mounting disks in position.
4/3 a=steel chassis, b=front retractable steering, c,d=rear swinging arms, disks on hull 4/4 packaged for transportation in estate or hatchback car
Claims (1)
