Ironing-machines, work supports for.-A. work support such as the roller of a Decoudun machine, comprises a solid base 4, and a separate member 1 detachably secured to the base, with a plurality of protruding resilient members 3, such as corks, or springs, positively secured to the separate member and arranged sufficiently close together to form a resilient surface. The corks may be screwed to the member 1 or they may be driven through the apertures therein from the opposite side, or the apertures may be tapped and the corks screwed through the tapped apertures. In some forms, not shown, springs may be used in place of the corks, or springs having cork caps may be used. In a further modification Fig. 9, comparatively large cork slabs 11 may be used, the sides of the slabs being grooved for the reception of T-shaped members 13 which are detachably secured to the roller, longitudinal spacing members 17 being provided. The slabs may be replaced by annular cork members carried by similar T-shaped members. In another form, Fig. 17, cork slabs 35 are secured as by staples. to a flexible band 34 which is wound around the roller 36. In any of the forms the whole surface may be covered with a layer 7 of asbestos.
