Abstract

Making cellular bricks. - Cellular blocks a of cement, plaster, and like material having cavities b formed therein bv the incorporation or spherical or other particles of gelatinous material, or of ice or other volatile crystals that can be dispersed during the drying and setting process, have. the cavities distributed substantially evenly throughout the block by forming or supporting the particles of ice &c. upon carriers of string, wire or netting which may remain incorporated permanently in the completed block. Fig. 2 shows beads of ice c formed upon a netting; Fig. 2 shows the beads supported upon or between a pair of wire frames. The blocks are kept during initial setting at a temperature at or below 0‹ C. until sufficiently hard to avoid crumbling and are then set aside at a temperature a little above 0‹ C. Calcium chloride &c. may be added to the cement to assist rapid setting and to render the material waterproof.
