Abstract

A data centre building comprising a ground floor, a roof and walls, and spaced lower and upper mezzanine floors between the floor and the roof, each mezzanine floor with open decking allowing the passage therethrough of ambient air, capable of supporting power supplies on the upper mezzanine floor, server racks on the lower mezzanine floor and backbone network equipment and edge network equipment on the ground floor, the vertical spacing between the ground floor and the lower mezzanine floor and between the lower and upper mezzanine floors being in each case at least 2 metres. Further, a data centre building is disclosed comprising a floor, outer walls and a roof, for housing network, server and power supply equipment on open mezzanine flooring within the building, comprising a closed filter chamber adjacent at least one of the outer walls and extending along the floor as a corridor to the building, with windows in the wall forming an inlet to the chamber for atmospheric air, and an air filter forming an outlet for filtered air into a lower region of the building interior for convection upwards through the said flooring around the equipment, and means for extracting the air through the roof.
