Abstract
The tyre has a body 1-7 with coloured markers 8 inserted between crown plies 6 and its tread 7 which become active once the tread 7 is worn down to 2mm. The coloured markers 8 can be seen by the driver when the tread 7 of the vehicle is inspected, or by a driver of the vehicle behind whilst both vehicles travelling at roughly the same speed.
Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
THE SWIFT SPOT TYRE This invention relates to a SWIFT SPOT TYRE.
Tyres are used on nearly every road vehicle from a moped right up to an articulated lorry and are a major influence on the handling and traction of the vehicle in most severe weather conditions.
However, a great number of accidents occur through tyres having poor quality of tread. The police waste thousands of man hours every year running spot checks on the side of the road and if the driver (not always knowingly) gets caught with their tyres under the legal limit of 1. 6mm, not only do they receive a hefty fine, they also receive 3 penalty points per tyre on their licence.
According to the present invention there is provided a SWIFT SPOT TYRE comprising of a number of coloured markers inserted into the tyre during manufacture that will indicate low depth of tread and can be easily spotted when the tyre is either idle or in motion.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now describe by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings m which :- Figure 1 shows in perspective, the coloured markers in position on the SWIFT SPOT TYRE.
Figure 2 shows a dissected view of the SWIFT SPOT TYRE with the coloured markers in position.
Figure 3 shows a new SWIFT SPOT TYRE before wear and tear.
Figure 4 shows a SWIFT SPOT TYRE with 2mm of tread and showing the coloured markers.
Figure 5 shows a SWIFT SPOT TYRE in motion with 2mm of tread, showing the coloured markers.
Figure 6 shows a dissected view of THE SWIFT SPOT TYRE with 2mm of tread, showing the coloured markers in position.
Referring to the drawing the SWIFT SPOT TYRE comprises an innermost sheet of airtight rubber 1 with the carcass ply 2 a lower filler 3 beads 4 the rubber walls 5 crown plies 6 the tread 7 and the coloured markers 8.
The coloured markers 8 are fitted between the crown plies 6 and the tread 7 as shown in Fig I and Fig 2.
In order for the coloured markers 8 to become active, the tread 7 needs to wear down to 2mm depth as shown in Fig 4 and Fig 6. When the SWIFT SPOT TYRE is in motion, the coloured markers 8 become visible from behind the vehicle as shown in Fig 5.
Claims (4)
- CLAIMS 1 The SWIFT SPOT TYRE design comprising a tyre with colour markers inserted between the crown plies and the tread, which become visible once the tread has become 2mm in depth through wear.
- 2 The SWIFT SPOT TYRE is claimed as in claim 1 wherein guide means are provided by coloured markers to indicate the lack of tread.
- 3 The SWIFT SPOT TYRE is claimed as in claim 1 and claim 2 wherein guide means are provided by coloured markers being visible from behind the vehicle whilst the vehicle is moving and the wheels are in motion.
- 4 The SWIFT SPOT TYRE substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1-6 of the accompanying drawing.
