Abstract

An electric coffee maker comprising a base unit (10, Fig 1) and upper section (11, Fig 1) where the base section (10, Fig 1) holds the water and has an electric element 16 and a filter 14 to hold ground coffee. The upper section 15 has a chamber for holding the finished coffee and a pipe 15 for conveying the finished coffee into the chamber. The upper section(11, fig 1) may be detached from the base (10, Fig 1) by a screw thread to allow access to the filter and allow water to be poured into the base unit (10, Fig 1). In use boiling water rises through the coffee filled filter and pipe 15 to fill the chamber in the upper section with finished coffee. The coffee maker may be picked up by the handle 17 and coffee poured out of the spout 18. The coffee maker may be cordless with a separate 360{ power base.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
Electric Coffee Maker This invention refers to an Electric Coffee Maker Stove top coffee makers are well known appliances. Conventionally these are used to make Espresso Coffee. They are probably the simplest and least expensive devices available to make Espresso Coffee.
Stove top coffee makers, however, need to be heated on a separate heating unit such as a gas or electric stove.
Electric kettles are also common household appliances, that contain their own heating element to heat water and so only need to be plugged into the mains and do not require a separate heat source.
According to the present invention there is provided an electric coffee maker in the form of one such as described in Figure 1 and 3 and which utilises technology such as used by existing stove top espresso coffee makers, with the addition of an electric heating element; comprising a base containing the electric heating element powered by a mains supply, the base functioning to contain water; a filter to hold the ground coffee and an upper section that holds the finished coffee with a handle and a lid, the upper section containing a pipe for conveying the coffee and a chamber which holds the finished coffee.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to he accompanying drawing in which :- Figure 1 shows from side perspective the assembled coffee maker Figure 2 illustrates the separation of the base unit from the filter and the upper section Figure 3 is a cross section showing the heating element in the base, the filter in place and the pipe in the upper section Figure 4 illustrates a variation with the cable detachable from the base unit Figure 5 shows a variation with a separate multi directional 360 power base
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Referring to the drawing, the coffee maker comprises a base unit 10 and an upper section 11 with a handle 17 a spout 18 and a lid 19.
To make coffee, the upper section is unscrewed from the base, the filter 14 is removed and filled with ground coffee and the base is filled with water. Then the filter is placed into the base and the upper section is screwed back on. Then the machine can be switched on. The boiling water will rise through the coffee filled filter and the tube in the upper section 15 and fill the chamber in the upper section 21, illustrated in Figure 3. Once the power is switched off, the coffee maker can be picked up by the handle 17 and poured from the spout 18.
The coffee maker can be a range of sizes, suited to make only a small cup of coffee, holding around 50 ml of water, or muchjarger, able to hold 600 ml of water or more.
