Abstract
238,265. Gill, E. W. B., and Green, E. April 9, 1924. Addition to 201,585. Vacuum tubes.-In an oscillation-generating valve of the type described in the parent Specification, a conducting shield is provided which extends over practically the whole of the outside or inside of the bulb; the shield short-circuits the high resistance film deposited on the inside of the bulb and reduces eddy-current losses. The shield may consist of strips b of copper, or copper gauze which may be in contact with the bulb. Connection between the shield and the deposited film is not usually necessary. The shield may cover a grid lead brought out through a side tube. A negative potential may be applied to the shield to prevent bombardment of the bulb by electrons. In another arrangement the shield consists of a metallic coating deposited on the inner surface of the bulb. According to the Provisional Specification the shield may be connected with the deposited film by a wire sealed through the bulb.
