Abstract

A component 5 of a suitable size, shape and weight, that can be inserted into or affixed to a buoyant imitation bait 4, at a point opposite to that of the hook 1 to which the bait is attached. The component should be of a greater weight than that of the hook, thus ensuring that the bait will float with the fish hook on its uppermost surface, out of the view of the fish.

Description

Hook Counterbalancing System This invention relates to the placement of a counterweight in a buoyant imitation bait, for use in angling.

Buoyant baits are widely used by anglers to catch fish, particularly carp, during the warmer summer months, when they often feed on food items floating on the waters surface. Most commonly used are dog and cat biscuits, which by nature are hard to hook, and soon become waterlogged and eventually sink.

To overcome these problems, anglers have recently started to use buoyant imitation biscuits, that are soft and can be easily hooked. However, when in use the hook always protrudes from the underside in full view of the fish. The fish become wary and often refuse to take the bait with the hook in it.

An object of this invention is to incorporate a small weight, slightly heavier than the hook, into the buoyant imitation bait, opposite to where the hook is placed. This inverts the bait so that the hook is now on top, and out of view of the fish.

According to the present invention, there is provided a component of a suitable size, shape and weight, that will allow itself to be either incorporated into, or affixed to a buoyant imitation bait at the required position by a suitable means, and same will act to counterbalance the weight of the fish hook, thus inverting the buoyant imitation bait so that the hook remains on top.

The provided component is manufactured preferably from metal, and in such a way as to allow itself to be incorporated into or affixed to a buoyant imitation bait.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which :Fig 1 shows a cross section side view Fig 2 illustrates a view from above Fig 3 shows a view from below Referring to the drawings the counterweight 5 is shown inside the buoyant imitation bait 4 that is floating on the waters surface 3. The anglers fish hook 1 and line 2 are attached to the top of the buoyant imitation bait 4. The counterweight 5 has entered the buoyant imitation bait 4 via a hole 6, that is of a smaller diameter than the counterweight 5. This prevents the counterweight 5 from falling out. The counterweight 5 has in this example been shown as a spherical ball, but could in fact be of any suitable shape and size, and could be affixed to the buoyant imitation bait 5 by a suitable means, instead of being inside it.

CLAIMS A component of a suitable size, shape and weight, that will allow itself to be either incorporated into, or affixed to a buoyant imitation bait at the required position by a suitable means, and same will act to counterbalance the weight of the fish hook, thus inverting the buoyant imitation bait so that the hook remains on top.
