Impact pulverizers; roller mills. -A crusher or pulverizer comprises one or more continuously-rotating beater-rollers and one or more plain or ridged continuously - rotating anvil-rollers coacting therewith for crushing the material and delivering it to an unobstructed delivery orifice or to a travelling conveyer. Fig. 1 shows a crusher comprising a roller s with beaters t and an anvilroller a within a casing c having a feed-hopper b and a discharge opening d. An anvil and guide member v is placed at the foot of the hopper close to the path of the beaters t. Fig. 3 shows a crusher with two anvil-rollers a having flat-topped teeth or ribs and with beaters t having prongs and fingers. Or the anvil-rollers may have circumferential grooves into which the ends of the beaters engage. In another arrangement, Fig. 8, a number of adjustable anvil-rollers a are arranged around the beaters t in the form of a grate, the top roller a being of larger diameter than the others and preferably grooved. The journals d of the rollers are mounted eccentrically in discs e fitted into openings in the sides of the machine. Teeth w on the discs e gear with pinions m on shafts n, and an endless chain p passes over wheels on the journals d and over wheels q, r<1>, one of which is adjustable. Toothed members i retain the discs e in position. Scraping blades n bear against the rollers a and direct the fine material to an outlet z. Guideplates v<1> are provided at the lower part of the machine to direct the material to the opening x. The adjustable anvil-rollers may be arranged at different distances from each other and from the beaters t. The anvil-rollers may be arranged around the whole circumference of the beaters with openings at the top and bottom for the feed and discharge of the material. Fig. 12 shows a double crusher with two rollers s having beaters t arranged side by side. When the adjustable valves c at the sides of the hopper b are open, the material is carried by the upper anvil-rollers A to the beaters t and thrown against a central roller A<2>. The disintegrated material is carried by the beaters to the lower central roller A<2> and thence to the lower anvil-rollers A'. The beaterroller may have ribs or ridges which may have gaps extending throughout the length of the roller. In Fig. 15a, the beater-roller s is placed vertically above the clearance between two rollers a; the material entering at b is caught by the arms t and flung against the rollers a and is afterwards ground between the rollers. Additional anvil-rollers may be placed at the sides of the beater-rollers s, Fig. 15<a>. In another arrangement, Fig. 15<d>, two anvil-rollers d, d<1> are placed on one side of the beater-roller s above a pair of anvil-rollers a. A feed-conveyer f passes around the upper roller d<1>. Any material flung upwards by the beaters t strikes a belt i made of links and is ground again and is removed at k or k' by suitable scrapers &c. Or the belt or travelling grate i may extend downwards and partly around the rollers a. As shown in Fig. 15<f>, a conveyer belt e' of fabric, wire netting, or links surrounds one half of the beater-roller s, the clearance z at the top being smaller than at the bottom; the material adhering to the belt is removed by scrapers g. Or a portion of the casing c, Fig. 15<g>, against which ground material may be flung by the beaters, may consist of a rotary disc or plate h<1>, from which the material is removed by scrapers g<1>. The impact part of the casing may be stationary, and rotary scrapers or scrapers - carried by an endless belt may remove the adhering material from it. Fig. 15<m> shows a belt e composed of links n<1> partly surrounding the beater-roller s; the space between the belt and the roller may be uniform or wider at either or both ends of the belt. Scrapers g and rolls o with fingers &c. keep the belt clean. The belt may be composed of movable rollers or bars in contact with each other or spaced apart.
