Abstract
This invention provides an animal deterrent by way of having flat sheets of a flexible pliable material with spikes, leading to a sharp point, which prevents the animal from standing or walking on it. These sheets with spikes also have holes that allow easy drainage of water. The material that it is constructed from is not only pliable and flexible but durable too and can be cut to any size or shape as desired. A rigid peg can be used to keep the product secure, when used on a soft substrate. This product can be colour coded or transparent to match the surroundings. It can be made to any width or length as desired.
Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
ANIMAL DETERRENTS This invention relates to animal deterrents.
The purpose of this invention would be to solve/find a solution to the following problems: - Flowerbeds, lawns and various other areas have the inherent problem with cats/dogs digging up bulbs, displacing sand, urinating, defecating.
- Dogs going onto football or cricket pitches, dogs/cats going into children's areas, areas where food is prepared.
- This could also solve the problem of cats climbing trees and cats and dogs straying by keeping them contained.
There are many products on the market that are claimed to prevent animals from going onto certain areas but either these products don't have long shelf life, can't withstand the elements or require many applications to be effective.
The object of this invention is to provide a safe and effective solution to these problems.
According to the invention an animal deterrent comprises an aerially- extensive member having a certain structural strength whilst being bendable within certain limits and being pierced with a distribution of apertures and having a distribution of protuberant portions outstanding from a side thereof.
An animal deterrent in accordance with the invention is hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows a sheet in plan.
FIGURE 2 shows the sheet in figure 1 in side elevation FIGURE 3 Design of peg to secure grid to ground FIGURE 4 Design of possible pop-in type of spike/protuberance FIGURE 5 Design of grid entry for spikes
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
As shown in Figure 1, this comprises of a durable, flexible, pliable type material grid with spikes protruding out at equal distances apart.
There are holes in between these spikes to allow for water drainage.
Figure 2 shows a side elevation, showing what the grid and spikes would look like from the side.
Figure 3 shows the steel/metal/plastic peg that will keep the grid secure in the ground.
Figure 4 shows the design/shape of the spikes, which will be made with the grid or separately to be fitted later when laying the grid.
Figure 5 shows the shape required on each corner of the grid in which to pass the spikes through if they are not already attached to the grid during manufacture.
As shown this is a grid type structure with spike like protrusions protruding at equal distance apart with holes in between each spike.
This is made from material pliable enough to cut into any shape as required. The grid is held secure by means of a peg that is lodged into the ground. The material used can be colour coordinated to the surrounds. The material has an indefinite sheif life.
Pets/animals will, based on the design as described, find it unpleasant and unwelcoming to proceed any further thus creating a highly effective deterrent for keeping these areas free and it is very versatile as it can be cut into any shape or form. This product can be colour coded to surrounds or be transparent and there is no shelf life.
Claims (4)
- CLAIMS 1. An animal deterrent which comprises an aerially-extensive member having a certain structural strength whilst being bendable within certain limits and being pierced with a distribution of apertures and having a distribution of protuberant portions outstanding from a side thereof.
- 2. An animal deterrent as claimed in claim 1 in which the aerially-extensive member has the form of a grid and the protuberant portions are outstanding at the junctions of the grid bars.
- 3. An animal deterrent as claimed in claim 1 & 2 in which the protuberant portions are removably secured to the aerially-extensivc member.
- 4. An animal deterrent as claimed in claims 2 & 3 in which the aerially-extensive member has a second distribution of apertures of respective ones of junctions of the grid bars and the protuberant portions are respectively received as a push fit therein.An animal deterrent as claimed in any preceding claim in which the protuberant portions are spike-shaped.An animal deterrent substantially as herein before described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
