Abstract

The girth for horses or other saddled animals comprises two straps 3 connected by stitching and a ring 6 housed or anchored to the centre 4 of the girth. The ring may have two mutually partable ends 7, 8 for attaching a harness. The ring may be anchored to the girth by connecting it to a rod housed in the girth (figs 4 and 5).

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
GIRTH FOR HORSES OR OTHER SADDLED ANIMALS The present invention relates to a girth for saddled animals, in particular but not exclusively horses.
It is known that saddled animals are handled and controlled through harness equipment such as elastic reins, draw reins, the De Gogue, chambon, martingales and breast plates which starting from the girth to which they are attached are then manoeuvred by the person causing the animal to work.
In a manner which is otherwise known this equipment is connected to the girth by means of snap links or buckles which engage corresponding rings or straps already provided on the girth.
These connections nevertheless involve operations which are complex and sometimes hazardous as they are performed beneath the belly of the horse, with repeated efforts to find the means of attachment for the harness equipment, sometimes in the presence of animals which are not always steady.
The object of this invention is to overcome the abovementioned disadvantages through the use of a girth in which the new and different arrangement of the parts which make it up makes its use easier and safer.
According to the invention there is provided a girth for horses or other saddled animals as claimed in claim 1.
The present invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which :- Figure 1 shows diagrammatically a girth according to the invention and a saddle fitted to a horse,
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Figure 2 shows in detail the means for fixing the harness equipment to the girth of Fig. 1,
L Figure 3 shows the part of the girth to which the attachment means of Figure 2 is fitted, and Figures 4 and 5 show two alternative embodiments having alternative means for secunng the attachment means to the girth.
Fig. 1 shows the girth in question as a whole connected in a known way to a saddle 2.
In greater detail, girth 1 comprises two sewn-together straps 3 of suitable material (for example leather) in the central part of which 4 there is provided a housing bounded by holding and reinforcing stitching 5 for an open ring 6 having an e. g. laminar cross-section. The ring 6 has two portions 7 and 8 which partly overlap in an elastic manner or which are able to move apart in the vertical plane at right angles to the plane of the ring. The mutual elastic separation of the two portions 7 and 8 of ring 6 forms an opening 9 through which a ring connected to harness means (not shown) can be inserted through pressure on one of the said portions and sliding in the direction of the other.
In this embodiment ring 6 is attached and anchored to the girth by stitching 5.
Fig. 4 shows an alternative embodiment wherein the ring 6 is secured to the girth 1 by means of a ring 10 connected to a shaft or core 12 housed within the girth 1. In a further alternative embodiment shown in Fig. 5, the ring 6 is secured to the girth 1 by means of two rods 11 connected to the shaft or core 12 housed within the girth 1.
The simplicity of use of the girth in question, which derives from the shape of ring 6, which avoids any special and complex attachment of the harness means, is therefore clearly apparent.

Claims (5)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A girth for horses or other saddled animals comprising two straps connected together by means of stitching, a ring being housed in or anchored to a central part of the girth for the attachment of harness means.
  2. 2. A girth as claimed in claim 1, wherein the ring has two portions which partly overlap in an elastic way to define, when spaced apart, an opening for the insertion of a ring attached to the harness means.
  3. 3. A girth as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the ring is housed in and/or anchored to the girth by means of holding and reinforcing stitching.
  4. 4. A girth as claimed in claims 1 or 2, wherein the ring is housed in and/or anchored to the girth by means of a ring and/or rods connected to a rod or core housed in the girth.
  5. 5. A girth for horses or other saddled animals substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
