Abstract

The tyre has two layers 2, 5 of differing colours to indicate different amounts of wear when exposed. The outer layer 2 indicates wear to the legal limit and the inner layer 5 for requiring retreading. The colours can be fluorescent yellow and orange.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
LUMO TYRE This invention relates to a normal vehicle tyre, which includes 1 or 2 florescent rubbers (depending on if the tyre can be re-treaded) being inserted at manufacture and can be made for all types of vehicles.
Many tyres'are available but suffer from the point that people don't seem to check the legal limit on their tyres (1.6mm). So by inserting these rubbers it will solve the problem of illegal tyres and cut down on accidents.
The object of this invention is to provide a vehicle tyre that is easy to spot by the police because the florescent rubber shows on the outside tread of the tyre. So this will deter people from riding round on illegal tyres.
Accordingly this invention provides florescent rubbers inserted into the tyre at manufacture.
A layer of florescent rubber would be inserted in between layers of the tyre-below the tread but above the legal limit.
Below is a run through of the figures you will find on the drawing page. Please find attached diagrams of how the Lumo Tyre would work.
Figure 1 shows a section of the tyre and where the florescent rubbers would be embedded.
Figure 2 is a section of a wor* tyre.
Figure 3 shows the side view of tyre but cut down the centre.
Figure 4 is a 3D view of a new tyre.
Figure 5 is a 3D view of a used tyre.
Figure 6 is a close up of figure 1.
Figures 7 & 8 are logo's that can be used on the outside tyre wall.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
As sol, n in Figure 1 the drawing comprises of a normal road worthy tyre 3 that has had a yellow florescent rubber inserted 2 and an orange florescent rubber inserted 5 at manufacture. So that when the tread 1 is cut into the tyre, the yellow florescent rubber 2 would be at (1.6mm) legal limit 4 and the orange florescent rubber 5 would be used as a second warning for when the tyre 3 is re-treaded.
In figure 2 is showing a used tyre and is worn down to the legal limit 4 and the florescent rubber 2 would be visible. 5 would act as a second warning for when the tyre 3 is re-treaded and then the orange florescent rubber 5 would be visible. So this tyre means it has had its life span and would have to be sent back to the manufacture to be recycled.
As you can see in figure 3 this is a side view of a tyre that has been sliced down the centre.
The depth of the tread 1 and where the florescent rubbers 1 & 5 would have to be inserted so that when the legal limit 4 is reached on the tyre 3 the florescent rubber 2 is visible. This would be a continuous rubber running all the way round the tyre.
The drawing in figure 4 is a brand new tyre that has just been manufactured, where the tread 1 is above the legal limit (1. 6mm) as shown in fig 6 no 4.
Figure 5 is showing a 3D effect of figure 2 and the tread 1 has been worn down to the legal limit 4 where the yellow florescent rubber 2 is visible.
This drawing in figure 6 is a close up of figure 1 and as shown 4 is the legal limit of the tread 1.
So this is where the yellow florescent 2 would be inserted and 5 would be a second rubber inserted at manufacture for tyres that can be re-treaded.
Figure 7 is a logo on the outside wall of the tyre that is florescent yellow rubber 2 for tyres that can't be re-treaded.
Figure 8 is the same as figure 7 but would be florescent orange 5 for tyres that can be re-treaded.
Description The Lumo tyres can be used on HGV, Buses, PLG or any other vehicle with a tread. Using the Lumo tyres on all road worthy vehicles would cut down on accidents occurring on all roads because tyres would be more road worthy and safety is the main priority especially when the road surface is wet. It would also minimise the number of arrests and stop checks if tyres where monitored in this way, enabling the police to concentrate on other duties.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
FLORESCENT TYRE The two tyres'above is a diagram of a new tyre (left) and a used tyre (centre) and the (right) diagram is a break down of a tyre and where the florescent rubber would be embedded into it.. My invention works as follows the rubber florescent is embedded in the tyre as it is manufactured, and when it goes onto the vehicle and as the tread starts to wear down the florescent rubber shows through when the minimum tread legal limit is reached. By doing it this way you will know when your tyre's are ready for new ones and it is easy for the police to spot and will cut down on accidents by 90% because this is how most accidents are caused due to no tread on the tyre's.
RE TREADING Re-treading is done on most tyres ie (wagons, buses etc) so this is where the next stage comes into action. The diagram above shows that when the tyre is worn down the yellow florescent rubber shows through so it would be advisable that when the manufacturing of large tyres are made that a second florescent rubber is embedded into the tyre (florescent orange). This is so the tyre can be re-treaded and used again so you know that when the final rubber shows through you know that it can't be re-treaded and has to sent back to the manufacture to be recycled.
Please note above on the diagram on the right Logo's yellow for you can't re-tread the tyre And orange means you can re-tread the tyre, these logos would be placed on the outside wall of the tyres.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS A normal road worthy tyre that has a visible warning device incorporated into the tread depth (legal limit) of a vehicle tyre, at the point of manufacture.
    This Patent would apply to all vehicle tyres.
    The process consists of 2 different coloured layers of rubber, preferably florescent indicating...
    1, once the tyre has worn down to the 1 st colour, the tyre would have to be re-treaded.
    (This would apply to all tyres that can be re-treaded i. e. Busses, Wagons etc.) 2, on car tyres only one layer of florescent rubber would be inserted at the point of manufacture.
    3, the tyre has reached its minimal legal requirement for safety.
    4, that the tyre is so worn that it is quite visibly illegal.
