Abstract

An elasticated and padded "tyre" that fits around the circumference of a table completely covering and cushioning all its edges. It is elastic and grips the edges of the table making it difficult to remove and a single tyre fits a number of different sized tables.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
CHILD SAFETY EDGE The invention relates to a device to be attached to table tops and other similar surfaces to protect children from their harmful edges.
Currently the only protectors are those fitted only to the comers of tables. These are secured by double sided tape and can therefore be easily removed by children. Also they only provide protection from the comers of a table and not any of its other edges.
An object of this invention is to provide a simple and easy to install device to give a child total safety from a table and to prevent its removal by the child Accordingly this invention provides a single padded and elasticated device which fits over and around a table's edges so that all edges are covered and are therefore protected. The device's shape, design and elasticity make it difficult for a child to remove. As the device effectively provides a new edge around the whole table it does not attract the attention of children as much as single comer protectors.
The invention will, due to its elasticity be able to fit a number of different sized tables.
The device should be made of a rubbery material (for elasticity) and a foam material (for padding) or some other materials or combination of materials which provide the same or similar properties.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows a side/aerial view of the whole device FIGURE 2 is a cross section showing the"lips"and the padding FIGURES 3 to 5 show the same section as in Figure 2 attached to the side of a variety of tables As shown in Figure 1 the device is a single unbroken piece of rubbery material 1, preferably oval in shape, with a gap 2 in its middle.
It is similar to a bicycle tyre except that it is far more flexible and elastic and has much more padding. Being highly elastic it can be stretched to fit different sized tables.
Figure 2 shows the gap 2 and the lips 3 which are used to grip the side of the table which in conjunction with the elastic nature of the device make it difficult to remove.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
There is thick padding 4 at one end of the device all the way around its circumference.
This side will form the new edge of the table thereby providing a cushion if a child bumps into it.
Figures 3 to 5 inclusive shows how the device fits to a variety of tables; a right angle edged table in Figure 3, a long lip edged table in Figure 4 and a short lip edged table in Figure 5

Claims (5)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A device which is attached to the whole circumference of any table to provide full protection to a child who bumps into the table
  2. 2. A device which is made from a single unbroken piece of rubber and foam materials or similar materials.
  3. 3. A device which is elasticated therefore rendering it difficult to remove and making it able to fit different sized tables.
  4. 4. A device which has a gap throughout it's length which fits and grips onto a table's edges providing further resistance from being removed.
  5. 5. A device substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
