Abstract

Moving-coil relays; electromagnetic switches.-In a moving-coil relay, particularly adapted for use in the automatic operation of train-control mechanism from devices on the track, a light frames 11 carrying the moving- coil winding 10 is mounted on pivots 12 between the pole faces 9 at the ends of branches 8 of a field magnet core 2, mounted on brackets 3. 4 within a casing 7 and provided with an energizing coil 1, a fixed magnetic core 15 is mounted within the frame 11, and buttons 30, integral with movable contact fingers 23, 28 co-operating with fixed contacts 21, 26 in the outgoing circuits, are arranged above the lateral edges of the frame. The cores 2 and 15 are preferably of laminated iron. The core 15 and the trunnion screws of the pivots 12 are carried by a frame 13 of non-magnetic material secured to the poles of the field magnet. The brackets 3, 4, and the terminal and contact elements are carried by the. cover 6 of the casing, and the brackets are preferably supported on a pad 5 at the bottom of the casing. The contact fingers 23, 28 normally hold the frame 11 in neutral position. The field current may be supplied to either of the coils 1, 10, and the operating current to the other. Alternating current may be used, in which case the direction of movement of the frame 11 may be reversed by reversing the connections to the coil 10. In a modification the field is provided by a permanent magnet, and the frame 11 is arranged for movement to one side only of its neutral position, contact elements being provided to co-operate with one lateral edge only of the frame, and the other lateral edge cooperating with a fixed stop.
