Abstract

An extendable unit for preventing unauthorised access to a ladder includes two overlapping sections of sheet material which can be attached to the rungs of a ladder and locked in place by a padlock and chain.

Description

Ladder lock 1. The lock unit when attached to the first few rungs of a ladder prevents anyone climbing the ladder.
2. Having visited many building sites in the past few weeks, I observed the common way of preventing unauthorised use of ladders was to chain a scaffolding plank to the lower rungs of a ladder. This I saw was cumbersome, time consuming and the plank was rendered useless, as holes had to be drilled in it to pass a chain through.
3. My lock unit provides a simpler lightweight system for securing ladders from unauthorised access.
4. The lock unit is lighter then using thick wooden planks; more durable and fully adjustable as the two sections are held together on a rail and drawn together by the chain it enables the unit to fit a wide range of ladder sizes.
5. The lock unit can be manufactured from a wide range of metals, plastic or composite materials 6. A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to
the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 Shows a side view of the lock unit with padlock and chain affixed Figure 2 Shows the lock unit attached to a ladder the two sections drawn together by the chain then locked in place with a padlock. Thus holding the whole unit securely to the ladder

Claims (4)

  1. Claims 1 A ladder access lock designed to prevent unautherised access and use of ladders ; both freestanding and fixed, the unit is fixed to the ladder rungs and then locked in place with an ordinary padlock.
  2. 2 The access lock as claimed in claim 1 is self sporting
  3. 3 The access lock as claimed in claim 1 can be made from a wide range of steels to meet customers requirements; for example stainless steel for food manufacturing environments.
  4. 4 The access lock as claimed in claim 1 can be made in a range of widths and lengths to meet customers requirements.
