Abstract
A skewer holder adjustably mounted above the grill of a barbecue comprises a horizontal tubular bar (1) with apertures that allow connection along u-shaped vertical bars (3) and apertures (2) to allow horizontal presentation of skewers. The holder may be secured along the hanger bars using a tightener screw (4).
Description
BARBECUE ACCESSORY :-"SKEWER HOLDER"
The invention relates to outdoor cooking on charcoal barbecues. The barbecue itself would typically have a windshield and one or more grill plates. The charcoal would burn underneath the grill plate (s) and the grill plates normally slot into grooves on the windshield.
Barbecues cook food on the grill plates including barbecue skewers with food portions stabbed along the length of the skewers. The food on the skewers is frequently burned or overdone because it sticks to the plates thereby making the turning of the skewers and food thereon very difficult.
The invention allows skewers to be cooked off the grill plates. The skewers can be manually rotated so that the food is evenly heated. The invention can be moved up and down to distance skewers from the charcoals. It is also adjustable from the back of the barbecue towards the front to suit different barbecue depths or differently lengthed skewers. Skewers when inserted into the invention are supported at one end only, that being the front end of the skewers.
The body part of the invention would be made from copper tubing, but any heat resistent tubing would suffice. The bracket part would be made from chrome rolled steel or round chrome soft iron.
The invention is now described using drawing references.
Figure 1. shows an aerial view of the invention hung over the windshield 8 with handled skewers inserted 9.
Figure 2. shows a front view of the invention off site.
Figure 3. shows an assembled three dimensional view of the invention.
Figure 4. shows a side view of the invention mounted on the back face of the windshield 8.
Of the drawing the reference numbers indicate that :1 is the main body of the invention.
2 refers to the apertures that go right through 1 from front to back and in which the skewers 9 are located.
3 identifies the brackets which pass through the holes marked 7.
4 is the adjusting screw which when slackened allows the apparatus to be moved up or down, in or out.
5 is the hanger which rests over the back of the windshield cover of the barbecue marked 8.
6 end caps.
7 are the two holes which are located on the main body at right angles to openings 2.
8 is the windshield cover of the barbecue.
9 is the handled skewer.
When assembled as in Figure 3 the invention is hung over the back of the windshield and hand tightened using the adjusting screw 4. The skewers with food on them hang over the charcoals located only at one end through the main body apertures.
Claims (7)
1. A skewer holder mounted over the windshield of a barbecue which supports a tube for holding multiple skewers above the grille plates but no part of which actually rests on the grille plates : the device is adjustable vertically and horizontally.
2. A skewer holder as in Claim 1 where the tube has spaced out apertures horizontal to the barbecue base.
3. A skewer holder as in Claims 1 and 2 where the tube has two apertures vertical to
the barbecue base.
4. A skewer holder as in Claim 1 with two rods which are shaped thus J, the shorter leg locates into the apertures described in Claim 3.
5. A skewer holder with two hangers that pass through the rods in Claim 4, and over the top of the windshield of the barbecue: the tightener screw on each hanger allows the skewer holder to be adjusted horizontally and vertically as well as securing the hangers.
6. All components are made of metals : copper, steel or any other with a degree of heat resistance.
7. A skewer holder of the above described parts illustrated in the accompanying drawing which is figure 3 of the description with the device in situ.
