Abstract

Bourdon pressure gauges. - In a Bourdon tube having several coils of different diameter, the outer coils are made stiffer than the inner coils by the provision of a reinforcement extending lengthways thereof. One end of the usual flattened tube is placed between dies 14, 15, one of which is provided with a longitudinal depression 16 which is opposite a longitudinal rib 17 on the other die. A longitudinal rib is thus formed on the tube and in the preferred form this rib is tapered. The tubing is then wound into a coil, the rib extending from the support around the outer convolutions and rendering these stiffer than the inner convolutions. In a double helical coil, Fig. 6, the strip which is to go into the outer helix 31 is provided with a rib 32 which extends from one end of the coil to the other end, the end convolution having a decreasing diameter to reach to the inner helix 35 to which it is joined. The rib on this convolution is preferably tapered.
