Abstract
An opener for ring pull cans having removable tops has a taper at one end for insertion into the ring of the ring pull to lever the ring upwards, a hook facing the other end of the opener for engagement with the ring after pulling it upwards and a pivot point facing the tapered end for engagement with the inside edge of the can so that the opener may be pivoted upwardly to remove the top of the can with the hook engaged with the ring.
Description
RING PULL CAN OPENER
The invention relates to a device to assist in the lifting of ring pulls, as fitted to cans with removable tops.
Such ring pulls are not always easy to lift and or pull for various reasons. This invention is used to overcome any difficulty in lifting the ring, and then pulling the lid from the can. It can also be used for opening ring pull drinks cans. Several sizes of openers are used to open the different size of ring pulls.
The ring pull can opener can be made of metal or plastic, or a combination of both.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows a front view of the opener.
Figure 2 shows a side view of the opener
Figures 3 to 6 are used to explain the operation of the can opener.
Figure 1, details the T shape of the opener. The bar across the top is the handle of the opener. The taper at the bottom is the part which fits inside the ring.
Figure 2, details the side view of the opener, and shows the pivot point, and the hook for pulling up the can ring.
In figure 3, the taper of the opener is placed under the edge of the ring. The ring is levered up to a position as in figure 4, then the opener is pushed through the ring to a point just inside the edge of the can. The opener is then pushed up to the vertical as shown in figure 5.
Once the ring is in position as in figure 5, the opener is then removed. In figure 6, the hook of the opener is placed in the ring, and the pivot point placed on the inside edge of the can. The opener is then pulled back to fully open the can.
