Abstract
A device for opening ring-pull cans and containers comprises a claw 1 to grip the ring-pull, a wedge (7 fig 2) to enable the device to be inserted under the ring, guides 2 to locate the ring relative to the claw, a safety guard 3 and a handle B. In use the blade A is pushed against the ring such that the wedge lifts the ring, which is directed up the incline of the claw and over the top of the claw by guides 2, the blade A is then levered upwards using the handle B to break the can ring seal. By pulling back the can lid may be peeled away. <IMAGE>
Description
This invention relates to a device which locates and grips the pull rings on cans.
Ring pulls have been built on to metal and plastic cans for a number of years. By levering and pulling on this ring the lid is removed to gain access to the can contents.
Many people who have delicate finger nails, finger/hand joints have great difficulty in the opening operation. We claim our invention overcomes the majority of these problems as itemised under claims.
The specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example and references to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 shows the plan of radius blade and handle, figure 2 shows side cross section view of ring claw wedge, guides and handle.
The invention can be manufactured from plastic, metal or wood or any combination of these materials.
The invention consists oftwo basic sections FIGURE 1A, the blade and FIGURE 1B the handle.
The blade consists of Claw 1, Guides 2 and Wedge 7. When the blade is against the pull ring on the can the wedge angle 7 provides the correct angle to engage under the ring. The pushing forward movement lifts the can pull ring which is guided by the guide walls (2) up the incline of the claw (1) and over the top of the claw. The blade on being levered upwards breaks the can ring seal and engages the can ring under the claw recess (6). The handle is held be gripping with the fingers and palm the designed contours (4) so positioning the hand behind the safety guard shapes (3).
By pulling back on the engaged pull ring the can lid is peeled away. The sharp edge of the can lid being held by the claw on the can pull ring. The hanging hole (5) is located at the end of the handle. The thickness and handle profile (8) can vary depending upon the material used.
Claims (5)
1. The claw (1) is specifically designed to grip a ring pull of a can or container.
2. The guides (2) are provided to locate the claw in its correct position.
3. The protuberances (3) (safety guard) gives protection to the fingers and hand.
4. The wedge enables entry under the ring pull.
5. The can cracker is substancially as described herein with references
FIGURE 1-2 of the accompanying drawing.
