Abstract
A wall capping or coping system comprises capping elements formed with a longitudinal channel (1) in the underside thereof, in which locates an upstanding longitudinal anchor strip (5) that is affixed with screws (4) to the upper surface of the wall to be capped. The capping element is preferably made of resilient material such that it may engage in a snap fit with the anchor strip. Adjacent capping elements overlap and may be sealed at the join by the use of silicon sealant. Rubber beads (3) are provided to absorb slight movements of the underlying wall due to settlement, subsidence or the like.
Description
Wall Capping
This invention relates to wall capping; typically available in various sizes, made of natural or reconstituted stone or concrete. Generally levelled in, bedded and bonded with a mortar mix.
The average wall capping may provide an attractive visual finish but do not cope with movement caused by for example: settlement or freeze and thaw conditions. Invariably the bond is broken between capping and wall, and each other. Thus requiring removal, cleaning and rebedding.
By nature they are heavy to transport and handle during construction, and messy to install. Most give little or no protection from wet and damp.
This invention provides neat, attractive capping that is flexible and strong, capable of enduring wall movement e. g. due to settlement, subsidence and freezing conditions. Providing a very secure fixing, with clean and simple installation ; together with lightweight handling during construction and transport.
Superior protection against the elements, particularly e. g. roof parapet applications. Also a natural enhancement to health & safety considerations.
This invention provides capping with a very secure fixing, via a full length channel to the underside of each module.
Attached to a corresponding upstand on an anchor strip fitted atop the wall. Each capping module provides waterproof cover and integral drip moulds. Rubber beads reduce movement and create snug fit. Cappings fit one to another with an overlapping flange and silicone seal.
Corners are made in one piece, preformed and fixed in the same way. An end cap is provided for finishing, where cutting of a module is necessary. Modules can be produced in various widths, to cater for different size brick and block walling. Corners can be produced with angle other than 90 degree return, to suit situation.
The main body of capping modules and anchor strip are preferably made of plastic or fibreglass, or combination to give strong, lightweight, flexible system.
With reference to the accompanying drawings (3 pages) the following description gives specific details of the working invention as follows :
Figure 1 shows capping installed on a wall as finished article.
Figure 2 (in section) indicates method of fixing capping modules to wall.
Figure 3 illustrates full length channel to underside of module, and anchor strip to wall.
Figure 4 shows plan view of one-piece corner module.
Figure 5 shows means of fixing capping modules, one to another.
Figure 6 illustrates (male) end cap.
As illustrated in Fig. 1, the capping comprises straight sections with a pitched top and integral drip mould to sides. The corner section shown is made in one piece to achieve a 90 degree turn, also with pitched top and drip mould integral.
All capping modules are installed by lowering into position onto anchor strip, as shown in Fig. 3.
As indicated in Fig. 2 the anchor strip 5 is fixed securely with plugs and screws to the wall surface, through pre-drilled holes 4 along the entire length of the anchor strip.
By applying firm downward pressure (arrow) the upstand of anchor 5 is located into the channel 1, in the underside of the module. Flexibility in the shaped channel 1, gives a'click-fit'into position.
Integral rubber strips 3 located in underside of the module, run full length either side; to allow for discrepancies or movement of surface. Drip moulding 2 each side, aids stability and dryness.
As in Fig. 5 Each module has a'female'flange moulding 9 to one end, and corresponding'male'moulding 12 at the other. The upright closed face of male end 11, abutts the female face at 10. The joint is made permanent and waterproof by application of silicone sealant to the surface at male end 12 (shaded area). This may be achieved by push-fit from above or slide-fit as indicated by arrows Fig. 5.
Referring to Fig. 4. Each corner section 8 is a one-piece module with a male and female end 6,7 (which can be
'handed'if required), and is fixed as described above.
I As in example Fig. 1, where a corner module is installed : To achieve correct orientation of male/female ends for jointing, the corner module is fitted first. Subsequent straight modules are fixed to corner module and so on.
The last module may require cutting to length; whereby an end cap 13 is provided, in the form of a'male'end
Fig. 6 to finish.
Claims (2)
- CLAIMS 1 Wall capping in the form of straight sections and pre-formed corners provided to various angles with secure fixing by means of; a full length channel located to the underside of each capping module being push-fit into position, onto a pre-fixed anchor strip with corresponding shaped upstand through length of wall. Providing a secure joint between each section by means of shaped interlocating ends. Incorporating flexible beading to undersides of capping modules to cater for movement in wall.
- 2 Wall capping substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1-6 of the accompanying drawing.
