Description

COOKING GRILL HAVING HEAT CONCENTRATING CONFIGURATION The present invention relates to a cooking grill having a heat concentrating configuration.
Typical cooking grills comprise a fire housing for receiving the charcoal therein, and a wire grid supported on the fire housing for supporting the meat or the other food for cooking. U. S. Patent No. 4,211, 206 to Darbo discloses one of the typical cooking grills having the wire grid directly disposed above the charcoal received in the fire housing. However, the grease, the oil, the sauce, or the like may drop onto the charcoal such that smoke and gas may be generated and may affect and bother the users. In addition, the charcoal is not enclosed and is opened to the air such that the most of the heat may dissipate and may lost and may not be concentrated for cooking purposes.
It is accordingly an object of the present invention to provide a cooking grill including a heat concentrating configuration for concentrating the heat, and for preventing the grease, the oil, the sauce, or the like from dropping onto the charcoal to generate the smoke and the gas.
According to the present invention there is provided a cooking grill comprising : a) a housing including a peripheral chamber for receiving charcoal, and
b) a wire grid provided above the housing for 0
supporting food to be cooked.
The charcoal may be received in the peripheral chamber of the housing and may be prevented from being disposed in the middle or the center portion of the housing. The meat or the food supported on the middle or center portion of the wire grid may thus be prevented from being directly disposed above the charcoal. The sauce or the grease or the oil or the like that may be dropped from the meat or the food may thus be prevented from dropping onto the charcoal.
A shielding device may be used for shielding the peripheral chamber of the housing to prevent dirt from dropping onto the charcoal, and includes a casing disposed above a base for forming the peripheral chamber between the base and the casing.
The housing includes a cylindrical and perforated partition disposed in the housing and between the base and the casing. The base includes a bottom portion having an outlet, the casing includes an upper portion having a port for air flowing purposes. The base includes a peripheral shoulder for supporting the bottom portion of the cylindrical partition.
A leg device may be used for supporting the housing. A collector may be attached to the leg device and disposed below the housing for collecting dirt.
In the drawings : FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a cooking grill;
FIG. 2 is an exploded view of the cooking grill ; FIG. 3 is a cross sectional view taken along lines 3-3 of FIG. 1; and FIG. 4 is a perspective view illustrating the operation of the cooking grill.
Referring to FIGS. 1-3, a cooking grill comprises a housing 10 including a base 12 having an outlet 22 formed in the bottom portion, and having an opening 21 of a greater diameter than that of the outlet 22 of the base 12, and having a peripheral shoulder 24 formed in the middle portion for engaging with a bottom peripheral portion of a cylindrical and perforated partition 14, and for supporting the partition 14 at the upright position (FIGS. 2,3). The partition 14 includes a number of orifices 42 for air circulating purposes. A supporting leg device (23) includes one or more leg members 23, such as three, detachably attached to the bottom of the base 12 with fasteners or the like for supporting the base 12 at a distance above the supporting ground.
The housing 10 includes a casing 13 having a bottom peripheral portion 31 (FIG. 2) engaged on the base 12 and secured on top of the base 12 with a locking device or the like, for preventing the casing 13 from moving laterally relative to the base 12 and disengaged from the base 12. The casing 13 includes an upper portion having a port 32 which preferably
includes a diameter no less than that of the outlet 22 of the base 12.
As best shown in FIG. 3, the base 12 and/or the casing 13 and the peripheral partition 14 form a peripheral chamber 41 for receiving the charcoal 77.
The heat generated by or the air heated by the heat generated by the charcoal 77 may flow upward and may be concentrated to flow through the port 32 of the casing 13, such that the heated air may be concentrated to flow through the port 32 of the casing 13. A peripheral wall 34 is engaged on and supported on the peripheral portion 31 of the casing 13. A wire grid 15 may be disposed on the peripheral wall 34 or disposed in the peripheral wall 34 and supported on the casing 13 for supporting the meat or the other food 88 (FIG. 4). The wire grid 15 includes a number of holes 51 for allowing the heated air to flow through the holes 51 of the wire grid 15 and to cook the meat or the other food 88. A cover 17 may be engaged on top of the wire grid 15 and/or the wall 34 for covering the meat or the other food 88, and includes a knob 71 for operating the cover 17.
A collector 16 is secured to the leg device 23 and disposed below the outlet 22 of the base 12 for collecting the grease, the oil, the sauce, or even the ash of the charcoal. The collector 16 includes one or more lock grooves 61 for receiving and securing to the
leg members 23. The lock grooves 61 each includes an inlet 62 and a lock slot 63 perpendicular to the inlets 62 and having an identical center of curvature located at or coincide with the center of the collector 16. The leg members 23 may first be engaged into the inlets 62 of the collector 16, and the collector 16 may then be rotated relative to the leg members 23 to engage the leg members 23 into the lock slots 63 of the collector 16, such that the collector 16 may be detachably secured onto the leg members 23.
In operation, as shown in FIGS. 3,4, the meat or the food 88 to be cooked may be supported on the wire grid 15. The air heated by the charcoal 77 or the heated air may flow upward and out through the port 32 of the casing 13, such that the heated air may be concentrated. The air in the environment may thus be drawn into the housing 10 via the outlet 22 of the base 12 (FIG. 3). The heat generated by the charcoal 77 may also be dissipated upwardly through the casing 13 and to the peripheral portion of the wire grid 15. The area located above the port 32 of the casing 13 may have a temperature greater than the peripheral portion of the wire grid 15. The food 88 that is not required to be highly cooked may be disposed on the peripheral portion of the wire grid 15 or may be disposed above the casing 13. The casing 13 may shield the charcoal 77 and may prevent the charcoal 77 from being dirtied by the grease, the oil, the sauce, or the like.
Alternatively, without the peripheral wall 34, the wire grid 15 may also be directly disposed above the partition 14 and/or the casing 13. The casing 13 may also be removed from the housing 10, and the peripheral wall 34 may be directly disposed above the base 12.
Without the casing 13, the meat or the food 88 is preferably disposed in the middle portion of the wire grid 15 for preventing the grease, the oil, the sauce, or the like from dropping onto the charcoal.
