Abstract
Pure 1-nitro-2-methylanthraquinone is obtained from the crude product by heating its aqueous suspension with a sulphite, e.g. sodium sulphite. The isomers pass into solution in the form of sulphonic acids and can be removed by filtration. The purified product gives immediately with sodium sulphide pure 1 - amino - 2 - methylanthraquinone, the bromine and other derivatives obtained therefrom being stated to melt at 40-50 DEG C. higher than has hitherto been stated.
