Abstract

<B>A common navigation method employed:</B> When plotting a track from A to B one first draws a line (see diagram 1). Once this is done you draw two drift lines from B at 10{ either side of your plot (diagram 2). At some point along your rout you may get the opportunity to accurately fix your position on your chart. It can be seen by comparing your fix to your intended track you are 5{ left of track(diagram 3). It is now possible to make the appropriate heading adjustment to successfully arrive at B. The usual method used to mark and plot your drift lines is to place a protractor over your track and mark 10{ either side, then draw the lines using a plotter. <H1><B><U>The diversion plotter</U></B></H1> Fig 1 is a scale drawing of the diversion plotter, which is manufactured from clear plastic so that the chart is clearly visible through the plotter. <UL ST="-"> <LI>The plotter is used to draw the line from A to B. (Fig2) <LI>Arrows indicated by 1 or 2 are then placed on B with the centre line placed over the track which is visible as the plotter is of clear plastic.(Fig3) <LI>Using a pencil make a mark on the chart at points 3 and 4. Description

The diversion plotter Description The diversion plotter is a navigation-plotting device with five functions.
1/. A rule for plotting straight lines.
2/. A rule for measuring nautical miles on 500,000 & 250,000 scale aviation charts.
3/. A protractor (the scale running down one side of the plotter).
4/. A design width of 5 or 10 nautical miles when used on 500,000 & 250,000 scale charts respectfully.
5/. A means by which 100 drift lines may easily be drawn originating from the destination or place of departure departure, without the use of a protractor.

Claims (1)

  1. Claim Functions 1, 2, 3 & 4 are standard functions of a plotting tool. However function 5 is unique in two ways: 1/. The method used to plot the drift lines.
2/. Having a drift line plotting device incorporated in a plotter.
I make the following claims: - This invention is new; there is no other plotting tool capable of this function. There is no other device that enables the plotting of drift lines using its unique method.
    - The inventive step involved is that I have devised a tool that enables 100 drift lines to be plotted without the use of a protractor or other device.
    - It has industrial application in that it can be used for plotting tracks with drift lines in navigation.
    - This is not an'excluded'invention as it does not involve'abstract aspects'.
