Abstract

A device for attachment to a paint can or kettle comprises a discontinuous metal ring (I) against which a brush may be wiped, having prongs (III) for holding a paint brush handle clear of the rim of the can. Lugs (II) are provided to locate the device on the can.

Description

PAINT-DRIP, MESS AND TIME SAVER.
BACKGROUND The invention relates to a piece of suitably robust material which has lugs that enable it to be fitted onto the rim of either a paintcan or a paintkettle. The invention then becomes a reliable substitute for the rim of the pot, there follows a list of three variations of this invention to accomodate different paintcans and paintkettles.
(A)... A circular shaped version with four wide lugs to accomodate a stand ard paint manufacturers manufacturers paintcan rim thickness.
(B)... A circular shaped version, similar to version (A) with the exception that the lugs are made narrower to accomodate a tradesmans paintkettle rim thickness.
(C)... A half circle shaped version with three narrow lugs to accomodate a tradesmans paintkettle of a smaller dimension. The aforementioned versions (A) and (B) have an added feature which consists of a break in the circular shaped robust material, on either end of which is fitted a prong which points upwards, sideways and inwards.
WHAT THE INVENTION DOES.
Although paintpots and paintcans have been in use for many years, my observation is that they have a threefold dysfunction.
When using a paintpot or paintcan you take your brushful of paint and then scrape off the excess against the rim of the paintpot or paintcan.
Invariably, at some point the the paint will start to run over and event -ually drip onto whatever surface you happen to be working above.
The act of scraping paint from your brush can also be slightly time consum
- ring, albeit almost negligible at the time. During the various aspects of painting the user will, at some point have to lay down their brush, this usually happens on the rim of the paintcan or paintpot which invariably has paint all around it and in turn transfers onto the handle making life that little bit more cumbersome.
THE INVENTIONS FUNCTIONS.
(1).. Eliminate paint from dripping or running over the side of the paint -pot or paintcan.
(2).. Keep paint from getting on the handle between times of using.
(3).. Speed up the whole painting process by eliminating both of the time consuming dysfunctions aforementioned in sections (1) and (2).
THE ESSENTIAL FEATURES.
Are as follows:-... A circular shaped band of suit - ably robust material that can withstand constant contact with paints and white spirit, it also has to be able to withstand high temperatures when burning off said paint etc.. It also has to have the properties of being able to lend enough tension to assist in the gripping process when the invention is fitted onto the required pot or can. It's furnished with lugs that protrude from equidistant points which enable the invention to grip onto the paintpot or paintcan. At this point the invention becomes a substitute rim for the paintpot or paintcan.
Then it serves to take the paint from your brush when scraping the excess, the paint then runs over either side of the invention and straight back into the vessel from which it came, without ever reaching the rim of the paint vessel you happen to be using.
--PAINT-DRIP, MESS AND TIME SAVER.
ESSENTIAL FEATURES... cont..
Variations (A), (B) and (C) have the following individual features, as stated earlier in the paragraph concerning BACKGROUND.
Variation (A) A circular shaped band onto which are attached four wide lugs, a break in the circular band where a prong has been attached onto either end of it. Both prongs point upwards, sideways and inwards. The circular band, lugs and prongs should probably be made from the same suitably robust material and incorporate heat coping properties, all these combined will give an added longevity to the invention.
Variation (B) Has all the same features as version (A) with the exception of the lug size, which is of smaller proportions to accomodate a tradesmans paintkettle.
Variation (C) Is a half circular shaped band with three of the narrower lugs which will be geared towards a paintkettle of smaller dimensions. As in all other versions this one should also be made of a suitably robust material able to cope with the same level of heat, the one exception being that there are no prongs fitted to this one.
IMPORTANT NON ESSENTIAL FEATURES.
The specific material from which the circular band, lugs and prongs are constructed from is of no significance as long as it fulfills the essential heat coping and strength require - mentsof the material listed previously. The material could comprise of any or all of the following components metal, alloy, thermo-plastic, plastic or graphite.
BEGINNING OF THE DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION A preferred embodiment of the invention in its three variations of (A), (B) and (C) will now be described with reference given to the accompanying drawings, about which FIGURE 1..... shows a three dimensional drawing of variation (A)... which is equipped with WIDE lugs to accomodate a paint manufacturers paint-can rim.
--- ******* FIGURE 2..... shows a three dimentional drawing of variation (B)... which is equipped with NARROW lugs to accomodate a standard tradesmans paintpot rim.
---- ******* FIGURE 3..... shows a three dimentional drawing of variation (C)... which is equipped with NARROW lugs to accomodate a standard tradesmans paintpot rim.
FIGURE 1..... shows the PAINT DRIP, PAINT MESS & PAINTING TIME SAVER........ invention which comprises of a circular band (I) four outwardly protruding WIDE lugs (II) and where there's a break in the band two prongs (III) are adjoined.
The circular band (I) is formed in such a way that it functions as an inner rim for scraping excess paint from brushes and in doing so prevents the paint from reaching the outer rim and consequently running and dripping onto whichever surface you happen to be working above.
The circular band (I) and the lugs (II) when connected together and would then be stretched outwardly to fit rigidly over a paint manufacturers paint - can rim. The prongs (III) lend themselves to the function of keeping the paintbrush handle aloft and free from the rim where excess paint tends to accumulate PAINT-DRIP, MESS AND TIME SAVER FIGURE 2... shows the PAINT DRIP, PAINT MESS & PAINTING TIME SAVER..... invention which comprises of a circular band (ALPHA) four outwardly pro -truding NARROW lugs (BETA) and where there's a break in the band two prongs (GAMMA) are adjoined.
The circular band (ALPHA) is formed in such a way that it functions as an inner rim for scraping excess paint from brushes and in doing so prevents the paint from reaching the outer rim and consequently running and dripping onto whichever surface you happen to be working above.
The circular band (ALPHA) and the lugs (BETA) when connected together would then be streached outwardly to fit rigidly over a tradesmans paintkettle rim. The prongs (GAMMA) lend themselves to the function of keeping the paintbrush handle aloft and free from the rim where excess paint tends to accumulate.
FIGURE 3... shows the PAINT-DRIP, MESS AND TIME SAVER... invention which comprises of a semi-circular band (Y) and three outwardly protruding NARROW lugs (Z). The semi-circular band (Y) and the lugs (Z) are formed in such a way that it functions as an inner substitute rim which will fit half-way round a tradesmans paintkettle of a smaller dimension, half size version made so as not to restrict the access required when applying paint to a brush, when using a pot of a smaller dimension.

Claims (5)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A paint-drip, mess and time saver consists of a ring of metal with a break in the circle which has two supports attached to it which serve to hold brush handles up and out of the way of the paint-rim, which takes the paint from your brush during use.
  2. 2. A paint-drip, mess and time saver as claimed in Claim 1 also has four lugs protruding outwardly which enable the invention to be fitted onto either a decorators paint-kettle or a manufacturers paint can.
  3. 3. A paint-drip, mess and time saver serves to stop paint from running down the side of your paint-pot or paint-can by replacing the existing rim of the vessel of your choice.
  4. 4. A paint-drip, mess and time saver when added to the pot or can of your choice via the lugs as claimed in claim 2 will sit inside and far enough away from the original rim of the pot or paint-can enabling it to serve the function of being able to take the paint from your brush without it ever reaching the outer rim.
  5. 5. The Paint-drip, mess and time saver, when in use also serves to speed up the whole painting process by giving the user the confidence of knowing that the amount of care which is usually necessary when taking excess paint from a brush no longer exists.
