Abstract
A retractable stud assembly comprises a stud 5 with an integral housing. The movement of the stud within the housing may be facilitated by a spring 3 or other compressible material. Typically, the stud is removable from the housing. Preferably, the assembly comprises a canister 4 attached to a mounting plate 1 moulded to a sole of a sports boot. A plunger 2 may be located inside the canister such that the spring may be positioned between the plunger and the mounting plate. The stud may be secured to the plunger by cooperating threads.
Description
COMPRESSIBLE STUD ASSEMBLY FOR A SPORTS SHOE OR BOOT This invention relates to a compressible stud assembly used for boots worn in sports such as football and rugby. The studs and their integral housing are moulded or fixed to the sole of the boot.
Sports boot studs are well known but suffer from inflexibility. Many players of sports do so for fun and often play on poorly maintained surfaces. These surfaces typically become hard through continual use. Playing on such surfaces in boots with conventional studs can lead to blistered feet and over a period of time can result in more serious problems such as back aches, knee injuries, strains to the Achilles tendon etc.
The object of the invention would be to provide the sports player with a boot incorporating i the inventor's studs that compress into a corresponding housing under a sufficient amount of pressure.
Accordingly this invention provides a design for a stud assembly that consists of a mounting plate, a canister holding the compressible material and a screw in stud.
Preferably the stud is separated from the mounting plate by a compressed spring although other compressible material would be appropriate.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows a detailed representation of the components of the complete assembly.
Figure 2 shows a cross section of the assembly as mounted in the sole of a sports boot.
In Figure 1 the mounting plate 1 is illustrated, which will be moulded into the sole of the sports boot. The canister 4 will be attached to the mounting plate 1 during assembly. Inside the canister 4 a free moving plunger 2 will be placed, limited in its vertical travel by flanges on the internal surface of the canister 4. Between the plunger 2 and the mounting plate 1 a spring 3 is positioned during assembly. The screw in stud 5 is fixed to the plunger 2 using the threaded section of the stud 6 mating with the threaded inner surface of plunger 2. The stud 5 is thus replaceable as appropriate with wear.
Claims (3)
1. A sprung compressible boot stud assembly with an integral housing.
2. A stud assembly as claimed in Claim 1 where the movement of the stud within the housing is provided by a spring or other compressible material.
3. A stud assembly as claimed in Claim 1 where additionally the stud is removable from its housing.
