Abstract

A karaoke system comprises: a server 4; user terminal 2; and karaoke terminal 3 connected to a communications network such as the Internet. A user may register their favourite songs along with moving background information in advance of a performance using the user terminal which is connected to the server via the internet. The karaoke server has a password table 41 associated with a user ID number to allow the user terminal to log into the karaoke server. The user may then travel to a karaoke shop which houses the karaoke terminal 3 and their song and picture information may be downloaded from the server 3 to the karaoke terminal. This arrangement reduces the time taken to select a song and associated background pictures.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a karaoke system.
Description of the Related Art
In a prior art karaoke system, an enormous amount of songs are provided at a karaoke terminal installed at a karaoke shop or bar Such songs are delivered by a karaoke provider to the karaoke terminal on a batch basis.
However, since a list of songs are not arranged specially for the user, the user would take a long time to select his or her favorite song from the list of songs.
Also, a moving background picture is played while a melody of his or her selected song is played However, such a moving background picture is specified for a selected song, it is impossible for the user to select an optimum moving background picture As a result, the user can not always enjoy karaoke with a fresh feeling This deteriorates the customer satisfaction (CS).
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is an objection of the present invention to provide a karaoke system and a karaoke playing method capable of smoothly selecting a user's selected song.
In a first aspect the present invention provides a karaoke system comprising:
a server, connected to a network, for storing user selected song information and moving background picture information; and a karaoke terminal, connected to said network, for playing a song melody and a moving picture on the basis of said user selected song information and moving background picture information stored in said server.
According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, in a communication karaoke system, a karaoke provider server is connected to a netword to store a user's favorite song information and moving background picture information, and a karaoke terminal is connected to the network to play a karaoke song on the basis of the song information and the moving background picture information stored in the karaoke provide server.
In a second aspect, the present invention provides a method of operating a karaoke system, said method comprising the steps of:
storing user selected song information and moving background picture information in a server connected to a network; and playing at a karaoke terminal connected to said network a song melody and a moving picture on the basis of said song information and said moving background picture information stored in said server.
In a preferred embodiment of a communication karaoke playing method, a user's favorite song information and moving background picture information are stored in a karaoke provider server connected to a network, and a karaoke song is played by a karaoke terminal connected to the network on the basis of the song information and the moving background picture information stored in the karaoke provider server.
Thus, since the user registers his or her favorite songs in the karaoke terminal in advance, a song selection can be smoothly carried out in the karaoke terminal Also, since the moving background pictures of the user's favorite songs are registered in the karaoke terminal, the user as well as an audience can enjoy always karaoke with a fresh feeling.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The present invention will be more clearly understood from the description set forth below, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig 1 is a block circuit diagram illustrating an embodiment of the communication karaoke system according to the present invention; Fig 2 is a detaileddiagram of the password table of Fig.
1; Fig 3 is a detailed diagram of the song information and moving background picture storing section of Fig 1; and
Figs 4 and 5 are timing diagrams showing the operation of the system of Fig 1.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
In Fig 1, which illustrates an embodiment of the communication karaoke system according to the present invention, reference numeral 1 designates the Internet Also, a user terminal 2 such as a personal computer installed at a user's home is connected via an Internet service provider (not shown) to the Internet 1, and also, a karaoke terminal 3 installed at a karaoke shop is connected via another Internet service provider (not shown) to the Internet 1 Further, a karaoke provider server 4 is connected to the Internet 1.
The user terminal 2 has a section 21 for registering song information andmovingpicture informationinthekaraoke provider server 4.
The karaoke terminal 3 has a section 31 for displaying song information in a menu form on a display unit (not shown) in accordance with the song information stored in the karaoke provider server 4, a section 32 for playing a melody of a selected song of the song information, and a section 33 for displaying the moving background picture while the selected song is being played.
The karaoke provider server 4 has a password table 41 for storing a password in correspondence with a user identification (ID) number, a user ID and password determining section 42 for determining whether or not a received password coincides with a respective password stored in the password table 41 in correspondence with a received user ID number, a song information and moving background picture table 43, a song information and moving background picture storing section 44 for storing song information and moving background picture information from the user terminal 2 in the song information and moving background picture table 43 in correspondence with user ID numbers, and a song information and moving background picture delivering section 45 for delivering song information and moving background picture information from the song information and moving background picture table 43 to the karaoke terminal 3 in Correspondence with a received ID number.
As shown in Fig 2, the password table 41 is formed by a user ID number item and a password item, That is, a password is stored in the password table 41 in correspondence with a pre-allocated user ID number.
36 As shown in Fig 3, the song information and moving background picture table 43 is formed by a user ID number item, a song information item and a moving background picture item.
That is, song information and moving background picture information are stored in the song information and moving background picture table 43 in correspondence with an ID number In this case, one or a plurality of pieces of song information each along with one moving background picture are stored in the song information and moving background picture table 43 Note that song information is a name for specifying a song a name of a singer for singing the song, or the like.
The operation of the communication karaoke system of Fig 1 is explained next with reference to Figs 4 and 5.
Note that Fig 4 shows an operation between the user terminal 2 and the karaoke provider server 4, and Fig 5 shows an operation between the karaoke terminal 3 and the karaoke provider server 4.
First, as indicated by Sl, the user terminal 2 acquires a password from a provider which supervises the karaoke provider server 4 In this case, the provider stores the password of the user terminal 2 in the password table 41 in correspondence with a user ID number of the user terminal 2.
Next, as indicated by 52, the user terminal 2 is logged-in to the karaoke provider server 4 by using the password along with the user ID number.
Next, as indicated by 53, in the karaoke provider server 4, the user ID and password determining section 41 determines whether or not the received password coincides with one stored in the password table 41 in correspondence with the received ID number.
If the password coincides, as indicated by 54, the user ID and password determining section 42 allows the logging-in of the user terminal 2 to the karaoke provider server 4.
Next, as indicated by 55, the song and moving background picture registering section 21 of the user terminal
2 transmits a user's favoraite song information (name) and moving background picture information to the karaoke provider server 4 As a result, as indicated by 56, the song information and moving background picture storing section 44 uploads the song information and the moving background picture information from the user terminal 2 to the song information and moving background picture table 43 Note that such moving background picture information can be made by the user using a digital camera or the like.
In the meantime, the user goes to the karaoke shop where the karaoke terminal 3 is provided.
Next, as indicated by 57, the karaole terminal 2 is logged-in to the karaoke provider server 4 by using the password along with the user ID number.
Next, as indicated by 58, in the karaoke provider server 4, the user ID and password determining section 41 determines whether or not the received password coincides with one stored in the password table 41 in correspondence with the received ID number.
If the password coincides, as indicated by 59, the user ID and password determining section 42 allows the logging-in of the karaoke terminal 3 t P the karaoke provider server 4.
Next, as indicated by S 10, the song and moving background picture delivering section 45 of the karaoke provider server 4 transmits the song information (name) and moving background picture information to the karaoke terminal
3 As a result, as indicated by Sil, the song information and the moving background picture information are uploaded from the karaoke provider server 4 to the memory (not shown) of the karaoke terminal 3.
Next, as indicated by 512, the song information displaying section 31 of the karaoke terminal 321 displays the downloaded song information in a menu form As a result, the user selects one song of the displayed song information by using a remote controller or the like Note that the melodies of the song information are stored in a memory of the karaoke terminal 3 in advance.
Finally, as indicated by 513, in the karaoke terminal 3, the melody of the selected song is played by the song melody playing section 32 while the moving background picture corresponding to the selected song is being played by the moving background picture section 33 in accordance with the downloaded moving background picture information.
Thus, since the user registers his or her favorite songs in the karaoke terminal at a karaoke shop in advance, a song selection can be smoothly carried out in the karaoke shop Also, since the moving background pictures of the user's favorite songs are registered in the karaoke terminal at the karaoke shop, the user as well as an audience can always enjoy karaoke with a fresh feeling that the prior art communication karaoke can't offer.
In the above-described embodiment, the Internet 1 can be replaced by a dedicated line or the like.
As explained hereinabove, according to the present invention, a song selection can be smoothy carried out by the user at a karaoke shop and also, the user can always enjoy karaoke with a fresh feeling, which would improve the customer satisfaction (CS).

In summary, in a communication a karaoke system, a karaoke provider server ( 4) is connected to a network ( 1) to store user's favorite song information and moving background picture information, and a karaoke terminal ( 3) is connected to the network to play a karaoke song on the basis of the song information and the moving background picture information stored in the karaoke provider server.
Reference numerals appearing in the claims are by way of illustration only and shall have no limiting effect on the scope of the claims.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS:
    1 A karaoke system comprising:
    a server ( 4), connected to a network ( 1), for storing user selected song information and moving background picture information; and a karaoke terminal ( 3), connected to said network, for playing a song melody and a moving picture on the basis of said user selected song information and moving background picture information stored in said server.
    2 A system according to Claim 1, further comprising a user terminal ( 2), connected to said network, for registering said song information and said moving background picture information in said server.
    3 A system according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein said karaoke terminal comprises:
    a song information displaying section ( 31) for displaying said song information in a menu form for a user; a song melody playing section ( 32) for playing a melody of one song selected by the user from said displayed song information; and a moving background picture playing section ( 33) for playing a respective moving background picture of said moving background picture information associated with said selected song while the selected song melody is being played.
    4 A system according to any preceding claim, wherein said server comprises:
    a user information table ( 41) for storing a password associated with an identification number of the user; a user determining section ( 42) for determining whether or not a password received with an identification number coincides with the password stored with that identification number in said user information table; a song information and moving background picture information table ( 43) for storing said song information and said moving background picture information; and a song information and moving background picture information delivering section ( 45) for delivering said song information and said moving background picture information from said song information and moving background picture information table to said karaoke terminal, when said received password coincides with the password stored in said user information table.
    A system according to Claim 2, wherein said server comprises:
    a user information table ( 41) for storing a password associated with an identification number of the user; a user determining section ( 42) for determining whether or not a password received with an identification number coincides with the password stored with that identification number in said user information table; a song information and moving background picture information table ( 43) for storing said song information and said moving background picture information; a song information and moving background picture storing section ( 44) for storing said song information and said moving background picture information received from said user terminal in said song information and moving background picture table, when said password received from said user terminal coincides with the password stored in said user information table; and a song information and moving background picture information delivering section ( 45) for delivering said song information and said moving background picture information from said song information and moving background picture information table to said karaoke terminal, when said password received from said karaoke terminal coincides with the password stored in said user information table.
    6 A system according to any preceding claim, wherein said network comprises the Internet.
    7 A method of operating a karaoke system, said method comprising the steps of:
    storing user selected song information and moving background picture information in a server ( 4) connected to a network ( 1); and playing at a karaoke terminal ( 3) connected to said network a song melody and a moving picture on the basis of said song information and said moving background picture information stored in said server.
    8 A method according to Claim 7, further comprising the step of registering in said server said song information and said moving background picture information using a user terminal ( 2) connected to said network.
    9 A method according to Claim 8, further comprising the steps of:
    displaying said song information in a menu form at said karaoke terminal for a user; playing a melody of one song selected by the user from said displayed song information at said karaoke terminal; and playing a respective moving background picture of said moving background picture information associated with said selected song while said selected song is being played at said karaoke terminal.
    A method according to any of Claims 7 to 9, further comprising the steps of:
    storing in said server a password associated with an identification number of the user; determining whether or not a password received with an identification number coincides with the stored password associated with that identification number; and delivering said song information and said moving background picture information from said server to said karaoke terminal, when said received password coincides with the stored password.
    11 A method according to Claim 8, further comprising the steps of:
    storing a password associated with an identification number of a user; subsequently determining whether or not a password received along with an identification number from said user terminal coincides with the stored password associated with said received identification number; storing said song information and said moving background picture information from said user terminal in said server, when said received password coincides with the stored password; and delivering said song information and said moving background picture information from said server to said karaoke terminal, when a password received from said karaoke terminal coincides with the stored password associated with that identification number.
    12 A method according to any of Claims 7 to 11, wherein said network comprises the Internet.
    13 A karaoke system substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
    14 A method of operating a karaoke system substantially as herein described.
