Abstract

A staircase for D I Y installation has treads whose angle is adjustable so that they may be set horizontal, whatever the angle of installation of the stringers. Bolts (Fig A) are then tightened, and optionally further screws may be used for reinforcement: a hand rail may also be fitted.

Description

DIY EASY ACCESS STAIRS This invention is a do-it-yourself assembly staircase.
Building a staircase from scratch is beyond the capability of the basic DIYer, therefore it is a very expensive albeit essential part of certain building works and home improvements.
Until now, staircases mainly need to be ordered and made to measure, involving employing a skilled craftsman or, at the other end of the scale, making do with a type of extending or fixed ladder which is often not suitable as a form of access, especially for older/elderly people, children and certainly not for the disabled.
This invention allows the layman to assemble a substantial staircase in a very short time, with no essential craftsmanship skills or expensive craftsman.
According to this invention, this easyto assemble staircase can be positioned in place, and the pivoting step treads easily angled to desired gradient. Once in place, simply tighten the side bolts to lock the whole staircase into a rigid structure. Reinforce strength with additional screws as desired (depending onparticular use) affix top and bottom as desired.
Handrail optional depending on positioning.
This structure can be built using most rigid materials ie: metal, hard plastic, wood, or depending on room decor-a combination of these materials.
The drawing in Fig 1 shows a view of the whole assembled staircase, with treads pivoted to desired angle. Fig A shows the locking nut mechanism. When tightened, this effects the rigidity of the complete staircase structure.
This simple assembly makes the whole task a DIY dream. No mess. No expensive workshop craftsmanship, just a substantial attractive DIY staircase in no time at all. Suitable for lofts and cellars, and as temporary access on building sites or anywhere where a semi-permanent solid structure for access is required.
To dis-assemble-unlock side bolts. This staircase is completely re-usable, and can be cut down to size if required.

Claims (4)

  1. CLAIMS 1. This easy to assemble DIY staircase has pivoting step treads, allowing the stairs to be angled to the desired gradient, making one size suitable for all requirements (refer to drawing Fig 1).
  2. 2. Simply position structure (as described in claim l) in place, adjust stair treads to suit and secure in place.
  3. 3. This structure can be built using most rigid materials-ie: metal, hard plastic, wood or depending on room decor-a combination of these structures.
  4. 4. The structure (as described in claim 1) is suitable for loft and cellar access, completely reusable, and can be cut to size as required.
