Abstract

An oil drum table includes a removable wire basket 14, enclosed in the drum 10, which stands on a base 11. The basket is accessed by a hinged top 13, while suspended on hooks 18. The procedure to remove the basket is first to open the top 13, lift out the basket by the handles 17. To replace, reverse the procedure and close top, secure at 15 with padlock. The basket is accessed by holes 16 cut into the side of the drum. People using these tables can dispose of empty bottles/cans themselves in busy periods without waiting for the tables to be cleared by staff.

Description

Bottle/Can Disposal Unit incorporated in an Oil Drum Table This invention relates-to a disposal unit incorporated in a table made from a 45 gallon oil drum on a metal stand, with a wooden top. Table units made from 45 gallon oil drums are used to accomodate people eating or drinking, either sitting or standing.

Because of surges in volumes of people using the facilities where these tables are used, bottles and cans sometimes accrue and cannot be cleared away fast enough, subsequently becoming a hazard. When staff at these establishments are unable to clear the empty containers away, patrons can dispose of the bottles and cans through the apertures cut in the sides of the drums.

According to the present invention there is provided an oil drum table. One end of the drum is attached to a four legged circular metal base frame, so that it sits securely on the floor. The top of the drum is cut away to leave the interior open, two holes are cut close to the top of the drum of a size to accept cans and bottles.

Into the open interior of the drum is lowered a wire metal basket to receive the bottles and cans when they are put through the holes.

The working surface of the table is formed by a circular wooden top which hinges at one point and allows it to fold from the horizontal through 270 degrees to the vertical, against the side of the drum. In the closed position it is secured by a hook, hasp and padlock.

Figure 1 shows the drum table in the closed position.

Figure 2 shows the drum table in the open position.

Figure 3 shows the wire basket suspended in the drum.

Figure 4 shows the wire basket with handles. Referring to the drawing, in fig 1 the drum sits securely on the steel frame 11, with the holes 16, just below the top of the drum, where the two top support brackets 19, the hinge 12, and the locking hook and hasp are located as shown in fig 3.

In order to remove the wire basket 14 from the drum 10, open the top 13, as shown in fig 2, lift out the basket

141 using the handles 17, fig 4.

To replace the basket lower into drum 10, until hooks 18, at the top of the basket engage with the top of the drum as shown in fig 3.

To close the top from the position shown in fig 2, to position as shown in fig 1, the top moves on hinge 12 through 270 degrees to rest on supports 19 and be secured at hook and hasp 15, with a padlock.

1. CLAIMS 1 The hinge on the top allows the top to be opened to access the interior of the drum.
2. 2 Removable wire basket with handles for ease of movement in and out, and hooks to arrest the downward of basket in drum.
3. 3 The holes in the side of the drum allow bottles and cans to be placed in the wire basket, as in claim 2.
4. 4 The top as in claim 1 when hinged in the closed position to be locked for security.
