Perforating and dividing by fusion. - In a blow-pipe machine for cutting metal of a type such as is described in Specification 226,846, in which the speed and direction of movement of the blowpipe are determined by a tracer wheel free to move in a plane, the direction of the tracer wheel axis is determined automatically instead of by hand. The tracer wheel 1, which is driven by gearing from a motor 8 carried by one arm 3 of a jointed bifurcated lever, the other arm of which carries the blowpipe, is mounted in a forked bearing 13 rotatably mounted in a member 4 which is slidable in a member 5 movable on a fixed pivot 6. The member 4 carries a cam 9 which is of shape corresponding to the design to be cut and is rotated by worm gear 18 and telescopic shaft 17 or flexible shaft and bevel and spiral gear 16, 15 from the motor 8. The cam operates a rack 10 engaging a pinion 12 on the bearing so as to control the direction of the wheel 1. Chain and sprocket gear may be used for this purpose. The member 4 is moved relatively to the member 5 by a cam 19, which is mounted on the member 5 and is driven by bevel gear 23, 20 and telescopic-shaft 21 from the shaft of the cam 9. Alternatively the members 4 and 5 as a whole may be moved, th.e cam 19 in this case being mounted on a spindle fixed relatively to the pivot 6 and the cam roll 24 being carried by the member 5.
