Abstract

A reusable/returnable cover for the sides of goods on a pallet 8 comprises a sheet of material 1 tightened and held in place around the goods by strapping/webbing 4, 5, 6, 7 and buckles 2, 3. The sheet 1 may be rectangular with the straps 4, 5, 6, 7 extending from each of its ends. The bottom straps 6, 7 may be extra long so that they can pass beneath the centre leg 9 of the pallet 8 and hold the cover thereon. The sheet 1 may be of woven polypropylene/canvas/tarpauline and the straps of polypropylene webbing.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1> REUSABLE/ RETURNABLE PALLET COVER Background. To transport goods safely on pallets from manufacturers or Distribution Warehouses to the End User or Retailer or Merchant, various methods are used to secure the items on the pallets to prevent the load shifting/falling during transportation on vehicles and also during the movement of pallets within the warehouse/ Distribution premises. The usual method for securing the goods on the pallet is by way of a polythene stretch - wrap material (Pallet-Wrap) which is wound either manually or by machine around the goods on the pallet spiralling from the bottom of the goods to the top of the goods. When the goods reach the delivery point and are unwrapped the polythene wrapping is then cut off and discarded. Another `usual' method is polythene `shrouds' which are essentially large covers which are slipped over the goods from top to bottom and tho'shrunk' by heat to make a secure wrapping to hold the goods in place, once again to release the goods from the pallet the cover is cut off and discarded. The reusable/ returnable pallet cover eliminates the `waste ` of polythene wrappers and covers. SUMMARY OF THE RE-USABLERETURNABLE PALLET COVER The cover comprises of a piece of material of sufficient strength (woven Polypropylene/ Canvas/ tarpauline etc.) and of sufficient length to wrap around the goods completely the material is then tensioned to the goods by means of straps and buckles which are attached to the material.
A longer securing strap is attached to the material at the lower end so that this can be

threaded behind the centre leg of the pallet and tensioned( see Fig 3) thus securing the cover and therefor the pallet goods to the pallet. This prevents any slipping when the goods are being transported in the `tilted position' on Fork lift trucks.
The straps are of sufficient load bearing strength ( polypropolyene webbing or similar) and the buckles are of carbonised steel or equivalent strength with a quick release design to enable easy connection/release and tensioning.

A Reusable/ Returnable pallet cover has a body (1) which has attached to it strapping (4) , (5), (6) and (7) at each end of strapping (4) and (6) is one lug end of a buckle attachment (2) At the ends of strapping (5) and (7) is one body end of a buckle . attachment(3) so that when the corresponding ends are connected tension can be applied by pulling the strapping through the joined buckle to secure the goods on the pallet (8).
A longer strap (6) and (7) is attached to the cover at the bottom end of the cover ( 1) to thread through the central pallet leg (9) and connecting through the buckle (2) & (3) tension is then applied to secure the cover (1) to the pallet (8).See Fig 3
