Abstract

236,496. Benda, J. Oct. 16, 1924. Lasts.-In order to produce shoes having a concave support for the foot, a last 1, Fig. 1, is provided the bottom surface 2, Fig. 2, of which is flat in cross-section at the middle portion, and has an upwardly-inclined margin 3 extending right round the la.st except at the inside of the shank 6. This obviates the use of a filler. The surface 2 may be horizontal in cross-section, or inclined in either direction. The bottom of the last may have a metal facing either in plate form or as a horse-shoe strip 15, Fig. 9, or the metal may be sprayed on by,' a known process. Theseat portion of the last is provided with a screwed sleeve 16 flanged at 18 and upset against the wood at 17. The last may be built up from an existing last by additions of leather, fibre, wood, or other suitable, material.
