Abstract

A steel making system including a coupling for the supply of stirring gas to a ladle (10). The coupling includes a male member (6) mounted on a ladle car or stand (3) which is controllably actuable to move in a substantially horizontal plane between a first retracted position and a second extended position. The rear of the male member (6) is mounted on a universal joint (4) and its front is hung from springs (5). This mounting allows the male member to move in a vertical plane and makes it tolerant of misalignment between the ladle and the car or stand (3).
